This country is popular for a number of reasons that include art treasures, trendy fashion, stunning landscapes, passionate people, and top class cuisine. Italy’s landscape offers a diverse mix of mountains, islands, beaches, and rolling countryside which also provides a plenitude of recreational opportunities.
Naples
Italy’s third-largest city is one of its oldest most artistic and most appetizing and one of the busiest metropolitan cities in the country. It is the capital of the Campania region in southern Italy. The city of Naples offers a treasure trove of artworks and historic sites as well as a vibrant atmosphere of shops, restaurants and nightlife venues. Many favorite Italian foods originated from here such as pizza, spaghetti, and parmigiana, these dishes are taken seriously in Naples and usually feature fresh locally grown ingredients.
As it is nearby famous sites like the bay of Naples and Pompeii, Naples presents an ideal base to stay while exploring the area. In the last few years, Naples has become one of the favourite destinations for Italian and foreign tourists who love spending their holidays in cities of artistic interest.
Italian Lake District
The Italian lake district stretches across northern Italy. The southern ends of most of the lakes are relatively flat but the northern ends are mountainous as the lakes reach deep into the Alps. Popular with tourists for over 100 years the Italian lakes combine good weather with attractive scenery. Garda is the largest lake and offers stunning scenery, especially in its mountainous northern stretches.
The climate is mild in both summer and winter producing Mediterranean vegetation with beautiful gardens, growing rare and exotic plants. There are five major lakes in the Italian Lake District. Embraced by green wooded escarpments and backed by the snow-capped Alps, Lake Como is the most dramatic of the lakes.
Sicily
The largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily is an autonomous region of Italy that also includes several smaller Isles. The Mediterranean Sea with its many little islands, scattered around the coasts of Sicily offers unique and the intense sceneries sense and flavors of uncontaminated nature. Its great volcanoes are symbols of the irresistible beauty and vitality of this incredibly charming region. A fascination for this region grows with treasured archaeological sites that tell the story of the ancient origins of Trina– kriya, the ancient name for Sicily.
The island’s most striking geological feature is Mount Etna, Europe’s tallest active volcano. Sicily has a rich and unique culture especially with regard to the arts, music, literature, cuisine, and architecture.
Cinque Terre
The Italian Riviera is not short of rugged coastline or romantic towns and villages but the five fishing communities of the Cinque Terre are its most iconic highlights. The five villages are no longer the isolated Hamlet’s they once were but there’s still a feeling of remote authenticity with few roads perfectly preserved architecture and a network of stunning coastal and mountain trails, rooted in antiquity Cinque Terre sees five villages date from the early medieval period.
The main attraction of the Cinque Terre is the landscape Mediterranean herbs and trees grow spontaneously from the top of the hills down to the water level. The Cinque Terre recognized in 1997 by the UNESCO mankind’s world heritage.
Milan
Milan is Italy’s city of the future, a fast-paced metropolis where creativity is big business, looking good is compulsory and after work drinks are an art form. It may not be the first city a tourist thinks of when planning a trip to Italy it has more than its share of attractions not to mention history. For all its workaholic reputation as the money and business center of Italy, it’s a city with an influential past and a rich cultural heritage.
The massive Cathedral of Santa Maria nascent is among the world’s largest it holds up to 40,000 people and most magnificent churches. Nearly destroyed from heavy bombing during World War-2, Milan has since reconstructed and now shines as one of the wealthiest cities in Europe.
Amalfi Coast
Amalfi Coast situated in Italy’s southwestern region of Campania. It is known for its extraordinary beauty that makes it one of Italy’s top tourist destinations. This spectacular coastline sparkles with hillside vineyards, fragrant groves, and a grand sweeping history. Stretching 30 miles along the southern side of the Sorrento Peninsula the Amalfi Coast is prized for its picturesque coastline that features shimmering Bay’s, craggy cliffs, lemon tree gardens, multicolored villas, and ritzy resorts.
Deemed an outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape by UNESCO, the Amalfi Coast is one of Italy’s most piercing destinations. it’s a popular holiday destination with sheer cliffs and a rugged shoreline, dotted with small beaches and pastel-colored fishing villages.
Pompeii
One of Italy’s most visited tourist destinations, Pompeii is a famous Roman city which was buried under several feet of volcanic ash for nearly 1700 years. Excavation of Pompeii began in 1748 and the site is yet to be totally unearthed, the site is located near the modern city of Naples.
The preserved site features excavated ruins of streets and houses that visitors can freely explore. Sprawling and haunting the site is a stark reminder of the malign forces that lie deep inside Vesuvius.
Venice
Venice, where the city has filled with tourist attractions as Venice it’s hard to know where to begin. It is a unique city, in that, is built upon a lagoon surrounded by the Adriatic Sea, located in northeastern Italy. It is an archipelago of 118 islands all connected by hundreds of beautiful bridges and scenic canals. Of the canals, the grand canal is most famous and divides the city into two sections.
Picturesque waterways and historic architecture make Venice one of the most romantic cities in the world. The hub of the city is the broad Piazza San Marco, Saint Mark’s Square surrounded by several of its top tourist attractions.
Tuscany
Italy’s most famous region, Tuscany conjures images of beautiful rolling hills, olive groves, vineyards, and cypress trees. Tuscany is known for its landscapes, traditions, history, artistic legacy, and its influence on high culture. Seven Tuscan localities have been designated World Heritage Sites. The climate is fairly mild in the coastal areas and is harsher and rainy in the interior with considerable fluctuations in temperature between winter and summer.
The medieval city of Sina also holds excellent works of art while its historic center is one of the most popular places to visit in Italy. Elbe the largest of several Tuscan islands offers great beaches while ‘Pisa’ is world famous for its Leaning Tower.
Rome
Rome Italy’s capital is a sprawling cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. It is a vast and complex city that is both historic and modern at the same time. Ancient ruins such as the forum and the Colosseum evoke the power of the former Roman Empire. It has endured for more than 2,500 years as an important Centre for culture, power, and religion.
Vatican City headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church has st. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums. From ancient romantic plazas to stunning cathedrals and Renaissance architecture there is so much to see and do in Rome.
