INTRODUCTION: 

Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE

Corsair is an absolute behemoth in the PC hardware space. They basically make everything that alone can be a big problem in this space. However, out of them compared to other audio products, the virtuoso wireless headset is pretty good, but it’s not perfect. If you’re interested in grabbing a set of the virtuosos, they’re currently going for around 210 US dollars.

You’re getting a very premium headset. The Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless is incredibly solid with all the metal. Nice features built into it, you’re really getting every dollar’s worth with this headset.

DESIGN:

The build quality is exceptional and has fully adjustable ear cups. The headband and ear cups both used a leather type of material and it feels super-premium. The gunmetal finish looks pretty awesome. The virtuoso is some of the best looking cans, you can wrap around the ear holes in your head. They look really cool.

On the left ear cup, it’s got a USB type-c connector for charging, and updating the firmware in IQ, or just using as a wireless headset. It’s got a 3.5-millimeter jack for your phone, or if you want to plug it into a DAC and also there is a connector for the microphone. On the right ear cup, it’s got a master volume dial and a switch for switching between Wireless and USB modes.

This thing is built so stinking and solid. Everything from the bracket right up into the headband, to the arm, to this bracket right down, to our little swivel bit and then down to the arms into the headset, everything is metal. Because everything is metal right there, it doesn’t increase its weight a little bit. You do feel these here a little bit heavy, not uncomfortably heavy by any means, but you get that really premium feel from this headset and that’s not just from the weight or anything it’s just everything moves incredibly smooth on it, again it just feels incredibly durable. If you’re gonna stretch these out, twist them up and you really don’t get any fear within.

As far as the durability here, one thing I want to point out by bringing to your attention, which I think is really cool. It’s on the ear cups, you don’t have any brackets going in, there are just the arms, the swivel mechanism will be within the ear cup right there. We see a lot of headphones with the brackets on the outside or you just got one bracket in the headphones dangling off it. So, the really good thing about this is if you drop it down, it’s gonna hit that metal. Within there you got to compress it enough for both metal arms to actually go in and break right there. The build is really wow.

COMFORT:

The ear cups are adjustable here. The ear cups themselves rotate and have a fully adjustable headband as well. So, you can fit any size head even with a big old head. They’re pretty comfortable. They’re decently weighted, but they’re not too heavy and they don’t hurt your head for extended use. At the same time, they’re also not the most comfortable headset, but they’re somewhere in the middle.

The comfort level is simply good. When I wear for extended periods, they are really good. On most occasions I forgot, I was wearing them. It’s always a nice thing, but at the same time, they’re not the most comfortable headset in the world.

It may be made of metal but honestly, when you put it on your head, you really don’t feel that weight. It’s not like a drastic amount. The clamping force is kind of right in between not too little not too much. It’s pretty much perfect. They’re not heavy obnoxious things that you just want to get off your head. They’re pretty stinking comfortable.

The swiveling ear cups are also nice. They also go in and then all the way out. So, whichever way you want them all the way in or all the way out, you can adjust it which is super cool. You know usually, most headsets will go one way, you can set it right down on your neck. But with this one, you can flip around however we want.

I do want to mention, as far as comfort which might be the only downside on its entire headset is the ear cups. The ear cups are completely pleather inside and out and that can be a pro in a con. It’s got a lock and that sounds really nice for you, but it’s also gonna lock in that heat for you so you usually get a little bit uncomfortable near eventually. The ear cups are very soft, but the one thing if I want to complain about something is there a little bit shallow. I wish they were a little bit more plush kind of brought them out, a little bit more because the ears do touch the inside not complete ear just the tip of the ear.

The ear cushions are incredibly comfortable. As far as for those who use glasses they are very comfortable for them too. There are some headsets that the clamping force is so stinking tight, that it just makes your glasses start bobbing up and down every time you move. Here the clamping force is just perfect.

FEATURES:

Speaking of the specs there is a set of 50 millimeters near drivers, the drivers have a frequency response range of 20 Hertz up to 40 kilohertz. They feature 7.1 virtual surround sound as well. The headset has a battery life of around about 20 hours, which I’ve personally observed to be the case, but make sure you turn the RGB off although, they don’t use heaps of power it will drop that down considerably.

The wireless range is about 18 meters or around 60 feet and I can easily walk around the house and not have any dropouts on PC. On the ps4 Pro, the story was a little bit different. I would experience these little intermittent dropouts, nothing game-breaking or annoying but it was something that I did notice and the dropout would probably last for like a quarter of a second. There is no way to enable the 7.1 on the ps4, it’s exclusively a PC feature.

It also includes a USB type-A to type-C cable, a 3.5-millimeter jack so, you can use them as a wide headset on your phone, or you can plug it into a DAC, or you can plug it into a console. Also, there comes a removable microphone, there’s a fabric bag, so you can transport the headset around, and the slipstream wireless dongle and you can use this dongle to connect the headset to your PC or ps4. The Virtuoso Wireless RGB essays are also compatible with ps4 and they worked perfectly with them. They are the really loud headset and I found the sweet spot is around 24 to 36 percent volume.

The Corsair virtuoso’s RGB SE is a competent headset for listening to music and gaming. They’re great but they aren’t as amazing as everyone tried to make them out to be. Once the excitement wears off, they’re just not as amazing as everyone made them out to be.

Inside your box you’re gonna get your headset, you’ll get on your paperwork, you get your wireless dongle, you get the detachable microphone, your USB, and then a 3.5 cable wire.

In the headset on the right ear cup, you have your volume control, there you can switch it to USB or wireless mode. On the left ear cup, you can have your mic input, your 3.5, and then your USB port which you’ll be for charging or listening. The volume wheel is really nice. A lot of headsets they just spin or just roll right out but this has a very nice kind of firm roll. You don’t have to use a massive amount of force again it just feels incredibly premium.

I test it on multiple devices from the PlayStation, the Xbox, the PC, you can also test it on a switch and then mobile. For Xbox and Nintendo Switch, you can only use 3.5. I tried plugging in the dongle and the USB but I just wouldn’t get anything. So, your only options are 3.5. One cool thing about this 3.5 that I want to point out is it feels very quality but it’s not this real heavy. It’s very nice and loose but it feels durable. If you use your controller or your switch or something like that it’s really flexible and doesn’t really get in your way. But I wouldn’t recommend this as a primary Xbox or a Nintendo switch headset, if you’re playing on those platforms just here and there use a headset a renowned that on them, then you go with it and the use of primary on your other platforms.

The two primary platforms for this headset as it states on the box right there is PC and ps4. There are some really big differences even talking both of those are our primary platforms as far as PC and ps4 there are some significant differences while using them on each platform.

As far as PC and ps4 you can plug it up with any option USB, 3.5, or the wireless. Again that’s on PC and ps4 you can hook it up any option you desire. Discussing the USB, you have plenty of length within it and this is a very heavy USB. You’re gonna straighten it up a little bit as far as your first time.

You can also connect this headset 3.5, to the ps4, or the PC. You can connect them up to USB or by the wireless dongle and again also connect them 3.5 to those devices the sound drops a little bit and you lose your features, just like when we were on Xbox or the switch. You take plug 3.5 into the bottom of the headset, then plug it into your phone or your tablet or something like that get some music playing out of it or a video or something while your games.

I love the IQ software. It’s easy to use, it’s very simple and to the point but its real stinker like these settings should be over there with our profile when we were just in the EQ and them just to keep it all in one location really kind of crazy why it’s in two different spots here. But as far as the software it’s easy to use, this to the point again just kind of got to be in two different locations for it.

Talking to IQ software which we have on PC which I have fired up, if I take that dongle out of my PC, plugged into the ps4 number, it’s already gonna be synced up. It’s that easy, you don’t go to hold any buttons down or anything, just instantly take it out, plug it in, synced up easy. But the real stinker is it doesn’t save your settings. We’ve seen a lot of wireless headsets save your settings when you go to different platforms, but this doesn’t. It’s not gonna save your IQ settings or anything so that’s kind of a stinker. You hear the voice prompts when you on the mic and off the mic.

You’re only gonna get that voice prompts on PC and you also get some other ones too like say if you plug it up by your USB and use it by USB instead of the wireless. It lets you know within the headset there. When you go over to ps4 you don’t get any of that. You get a mic tone like a single beep or there a double beep whenever it’s on or off and you also still get the light up here you get a green or then red. But you lose the voice prompts. It’s cool to have them on PC but on ps4, you don’t get the voice prompts.

MICROPHONE:

The microphone has a frequency response range of 100 Hertz to 10 kilohertz with an omnidirectional pickup pattern. The standout feature for the Corsair Virtuoso wireless headset for me is actually the microphone and the way they implemented it. It’s seriously one of the best microphone implementations I’ve ever seen in a gaming headset.

The microphone is fully detachable with a little mute button on the side, not only is the microphone detachable, it does the single thing almost better than any other headset vendor on the market can do and it’s something everyone always gets wrong. The Corsair absolutely knows the side turn. You can adjust it in IQ and you could actually hear yourself. The mic sounds pretty nice. I think this makes sounds really decent. I think Corsair nailed it with this mic.

In terms of software, integrates really well with Corsair IQ and if you already have course an RGB or Corsair cooling products in your PC, the virtuoso will detect otherwise, you’ll need to install IQ separately. IQ is a pretty refined bit of software these days and you can easily do everything in it with that issue and everything is super accessible the second you open it. You can easily set up the EQ, the microphone, and the surround sound settings on the main panel, and on the left panel, you can easily jump over to the RGB settings and set up the lighting too. You can even sync this headset with the rest of your system if you’ve got Corsair stuff. Personally, I prefer to just leave the lighting off.

The mic will also always be dedicated to the USB or the dongle, not the 3.5. So, if your phone hooked up or something, the mic is always synced up to the USB or the dongle. It’s really cool that you can also plug that in and still have some music playing over while you got your game playing. As far as that mic test, I really liked it. I think it was really crisp and I don’t even have the mic volume all the way up. You can actually turn it up or drop it down. It sounds very crisp.

SOUND:

I always judge a headset with how they sound with music before anything else, because for me that’s my primary use case and I’ve been playing quite a few games lately as well so, I did use this for gaming too. I turned off every bit of sound and software-enhanced when I found and for the first time ever the music sounded better with the 7.1 virtual surround sound turned on and that’s something that doesn’t usually happen and that’s not something that I was expecting at all.

While listening to music they sound pretty good, they aren’t amazing but they’re competent and they get the job done. In terms of separation and soundstage, they’re just not good. Nothing interferes or drowns out any other sounds, but they just miss a little bit of flair and I’m not saying that they’re a bad headset, they’re just missing something. Even when you tweak the EQ, you just can’t get them to sound quite right. 

For gaming, the news is a little bit better. The positional audio is really good. You can hear where people are and you can hear where everything’s coming from. For gaming, they’re pretty good, but they’re not amazing. They’re just good. There’s no active noise-canceling, but the closed box kind of help that and they don’t really need it. You can’t hear anything anyway.

As far as using these on the Xbox and Nintendo switch the sound stage is good. You had your mids, your lows, and your highs. It sounds crisp. They sound really good actually on Xbox. Going to the controller they sound great.

The quality of sound on both of those platforms with PC and a ps4 it sounds great either way you got to connect it up to USB, or the wireless dongle. In the manual for the best sound quality connected up USB and you can get the best experience with them. I tried it both ways and I really didn’t notice much difference it sounded really nice with crispy highs. The bass wasn’t like ear shaking, rattling bass, muddy by any means, but you did have that bass you had that kick in the background right there. But it sounded really nice, very natural and I think we were getting really a nice soundstage.

The frequency within this headset is from twenty to forty thousand. So, it’s really taking advantage. You are going to get 50-millimeter drivers and again I think with that range it’s really implemented. It’s bringing out our highs really nice. Even after having that bass back there also you really catch those footsteps and everything. It was really high tinny sounds while you’re still getting some real thumping bass in the background. Again it just really bounces out, not muddy, not ear shaking by any means, but it’s just a very nice balance stage.

WHICH TO BUY?

In my opinion, the Corsair Virtuoso RGB wireless is pretty good to buy. They are comfortable and they sound good too. They are a good headset but they’re not amazing and I do think they worth the money.
