While it’s tempting to call the Matebook 13 a thin-and-light PC, the combination of the discrete GPU and Intel’s latest Whiskey Lake chip help the Matebook 13 punch well above its weight class. Because of this, the lack of at least one Thunderbolt port…

We haven’t toyed w/ the X Pro so this is our initial experience on Huawei’s laptops since the original MateBook back in 2016 and a lot has changed. Mainly, in regards to design for the most part. They’ve gotten a lot better w/ the design and features as…

By Gizmodo
The MateBook 13 isn’t flashy, and it doesn’t have the brand appeal or pedigree of systems like the MacBook Air or XPS 13. But it’s well built, well equipped, and a refreshingly straightforward take on what a portable, mainstream laptop should be. And the fact that it’s pound-for-pound one of the best values for a $1,000 laptop doesn’t hurt either.

By  Ars Technica
The Matebook 13 is a solid laptop, and its higher-end model may be compelling enough to sway customers away from Huawei’s more expensive device. However, it may not be enough when faced with other manufacturers’ competitors. The year of 2019 is still young, so those looking for a new 13-inch Ultrabook should wait until competitors like Dell, HP, and Lenovo release their newest devices before going all-in on the Matebook 13.

A GPU beast. Don’t let its diminutive size fool you — this 3:2 13.0-inch laptop is equipped with a much faster GPU than your typical Ultrabook. Huawei’s latest offering is supposed to be a mid-range product, but its unique build and specifications are…

Upgrade. A quad-core and an MX150 in a notebook that weighs a mere 1.3 kg – the Chinese manufacturer has upgraded its 2018 model of the Air to a level on a par with the Mi Notebook Pro. Despite identical specifications the two differ in performance…

Once again, whether you should get the Mi Air 13 depends on whether you mind importing it and then changing Chinese Windows to English. If you don’t then this is something of a bargain with great design, hardware and performance. Otherwise, look at the…

Overall, the Mi Air 13 is one of the best notebooks you can buy for $700. The fact that it is limited to China is an issue when it comes to warranty, but resellers that list the notebook offer their own 12-month warranty. You can also use code GAir on…

DESIGN

Huawei MateBook 13:

For the main book 13 is definitely the price and the specs that you’re getting out of it for just 900 bucks it’s offering more than what you are paying for in an ultrabook form you get a touchscreen if generation I five eight gigabytes of RAM with 256 gigabytes of internal storage SSD with a spec like this it is very difficult to find something that is less than a thousand bucks. design is a 3 by 2 ratio which, I personally enjoy very much compared to the conventional 16 by 9 this ratio is slowly becoming more popular as it can be found in the Microsoft’s surfaces liner.

Xiaomi NoteBook Air 13:

It is that really nice Space Gray that we’ve come to expect so recently on the Apple devices and it just looks really smart really premium and again important with these products if you’re going to be comparing yourself to the MacBook Air it needs to be thin and that’s exactly what we’ve got here.

WEIGHT & DIMENSIONS

Huawei MateBook 13:

It’s pretty darn thin at 15 millimeters and it’s pretty light 2.86 pounds which is 1.3 kilograms clearly.

Xiaomi NoteBook Air 13:

The actual weight this is 1.3 kilograms approximately which I can assure you is pretty light it’s not the lightest I’ve ever used but it is certainly very transportable still and yeah all in all thoroughly impressed.

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD

Huawei MateBook 13:

The build quality, I really enjoy how they structured it feels really solid and really good in the hand especially the keyboard you know from the inside out it really just feels like an Apple product.

Xiaomi NoteBook Air 13:

I think the keyboard is pretty well put together the trackpad for me comes in two parts the actual responsiveness movement speed etc when you’re moving around on it. I think is really impressive and probably I mean Apple make great track pads it’s close it’s possibly not quite as good but it is really very very impressive you do notice the difference when clicking though the left and right clicks for example it does feel a bit cheaper in its makeup that’s not to say it’s going to break it’s certainly not going to say it’s bad compared to cheaper devices it’s probably one of the better ones in that sort of area but not as good as the MacBook Air in my opinion. Trackpad we also have the fingerprint sensor which is very reliable again it works every time it works pretty quick you have to wake the device either by pressing it once or indeed pressing the power button first and then you then register that fingerprint but again works pretty well.

PORT SELECTION

Huawei MateBook 13:

For the eighth generation either on the i5 or i7 configuration and that pretty much gets the work done if you’re wondering about the graphics it has a Nvidia MX 150 with 2 gigabytes of gddr5 so it’s not too bad when it comes to editing or maybe gaming and medium to high settings.

Xiaomi NoteBook Air 13:

For the port’s while you’re at it so we’ve got a HDMI port there a USB type-a there the headphone jack and then on the other side we also have another USB type a and a USB type-c so in terms of actually what comes with it you’re not gonna get the most amount of ports but again on a laptop this sort of size most people don’t usually really need too many ports and of course remember again comparing it to the MacBook Air you’re not really going to get many useful ports with that either but probably the advantage is you do still get the HDMI and you also get the USB type a as well.

DISPLAY

Huawei MateBook 13:

This laptop is unable to be open with one hand to some people it might not be a big deal but to me it kind of is because one-handed operation is very important you know when it comes to something so easy as just opening the laptop other than that the huawei mate book 13 sports a very stunning full view display it has the 88% screen to body ratio not too bad but of course there are much better ones in a market that has a higher screen to body ratio.

Xiaomi NoteBook Air 13:

In terms of screen brightness it’s really pretty vivid now I’m using it obviously in a brightly lit room and I can see the school very very well as you can see here it’s very bright nice vivid colors and again for a full HD display it’s one of the better ones in its class.

BATTERY

Huawei MateBook 13:

For battery this is one aspect where the main book 13 really strives in within just 15 minutes of charge I’m able to get the meet book 3 teamed up for two and a half hours of usage which is to me very impressive.

Xiaomi NoteBook Air 13:

For,the charger will go into this side here I personally would have liked to have seen another type C port on this side as well so that you can charge from any side that might be my probably only real concern. As well so we’ve got fast charging you can get 50% charge in 30 minutes that is pretty impressive fast wake up as well so you can close your laptop. The battery inside is a 5400 mAh according to the website the start time is about seven to eight hours.

PERFORMANCE

Huawei MateBook 13:

In terms of performance well it’s pretty much the same as every other intel eighth generation whiskey lake ultrabook that we’ve reviewed so far with that little extra boost thanks to the nvidia NX 150 graphics which like i said i’ll give you a little extra love for low end gaming kind of stuff but the cpu performance right on par where we expect to see with its competition to charge this you’re going to use one of the USB ports specifically only the left tour which is unusual most laptops we review you can plug it into any of the USB c charges.

Xiaomi NoteBook Air 13:

I would expect some pretty great performance now you do have the speaker on the bottom there are quite a few laptops that do this it’s not idea of course because Sam will be going down into the table or onto your lap, for example but I’m gonna give it a quick test now to see how good the audio is and I’ll try and play up to the microphone it’s not gonna be a great example but you’ll get a rough idea so I’ll turn the volume right up pretty loud.

CONCLUSION

Huawei MateBook 13:

I think is quite impressive on this laptop and I honestly wish that this is not exclusive to only huawei smartphones this computer right here has an NFC intelligence-sharing so if you have a huawei smartphone you transferring video and photos with a single tap of your smartphone to the computer and it can transfer 500 photos in one minute and one gigabyte of video in just 35 seconds now that is a very futuristic feature.

Xiaomi NoteBook Air 13:

To conclude that Xiaomi smartphone the likes of the slider me mix three which is a very very good fully bezel as display phone then that is an advantage for you now we’ve got a front-facing camera which is one megapixel which is not really, a lot to show home about but we’re gonna have a little go with it now and that is some bad pixelation you probably will only be using it for webcam or video calling people and it again it will do a job for that Oh bad sound as well strike the pose vogue quick and responsive vote, to take a photo so and the battery inside is a 5400 mAh according to the website the start time is about seven to eight hours all obviously be testing it over the next few days.
