INTRODUCTION:

Jaybird Vista

The Jaybird Vista is a really pretty good model of earbuds for those who are active. Mostly Jaybird introduces products that can be used during sports activity the same way the Vistas’ are also capable of using during the sports activity. The Vistas’ comes around $179. At this price, they are really pretty good.

Jaybird Run XT

In the Jaybird Run XT’s there are some things that they kept in, some things they mildly changed or the improvements worth upgrading. This is priced at 179 dollars.

DESIGN:

Jaybird Vista

The case here is probably as wide as a nickel and as long as the stick of gum, the case is pretty slim, pretty sleek. It does come with the USB-C charging cable and charge port right there and inside, you have your earbuds. In the Box, you get your cable and this is like your auxiliary cable, you get your silicon ear tips and you get small, medium, and large, two ear hooks. They give a number according to their size to the ear tips. Jaybird built pretty good earbuds, reliable stuff like that and they are durable too.

Jaybird Run XT

When we go over the physical features and there are subtle changes. First, we receive a slightly redesigned ear fin, they’re much more curved or angled than before. They look really good black and black is killing it. Getting a closer look for those who are unfamiliar with the Jaybird runs, there are physical buttons for pairing turning them on and off, and such they’re all very responsive and very clicky. 

The second change that makes the XTs’ better than the previous generation but more importantly better than most of the competitors is its IPX7 rating. While most competitors have an ingress rating of around 4 or 5 many of that they’re only splash-proof or maybe at most spray proof. The XT can be fully submerged in water up to one meter for up to 30 minutes, I wouldn’t recommend swimming with these but these are now as rugged as the draw bras which also have an IPX7 rating.

The case here is not magnetized so once you put these earphones in there be careful because they could drop out. Rotating to the back they still stuck a USB 2.0 connection and in my humble opinion, I think a lot of consumers should be investing in USB type-c since that’s the next universal ports most likely it is.

COMFORT:

Jaybird Vista

They give numbers according to the size of the ear tips. The number one stays in your ear if you like making office phone calls and it’s probably the most comfortable number one, if you’re working on your house or you rock on your job number one works pretty good, number two and number three are what you’re gonna use for when you’re at the gym. When I used number three I got a lot of pressure, it’s kind of hard, and you feel that pressure of constant pushing and you got to have it up on pretty close to max volume to really hear the words to get over that pressure, that’s kind of what I experienced.

In my point of view, if something they could do better either make a better ear tip that goes through your ear with less pressure and maybe some kind of air went to where the pressure could be, you don’t feel that pressure when it’s in your ear, maybe they’ll do that on their next model.

Jaybird Run XT

When I tested the original runs, they kept falling out of my ear during my jogging sessions most likely my ears are a little bit weird but when I compared them to all the other competitors I’ve never had that issue. But this time around they stay in perfectly fine and they do give me confidence that they won’t fall out. After testing these, shaking them vigorously, they stay in.

We are having button controls here but it’s not uncomfortable at all. Each press is light enough so when you have these in your ear you’re not actually like jamming these earphones into your head. Again very subtle clicks, they are awesome.

FEATURES:

They are sweat and waterproof IPX7 so, you don’t have to worry about that, they do have a sport fit for the most part they are comfortable, they both work single earbud left or right. So, it doesn’t matter which earbud you use, you can take music or phone calls with them, and the EQ does offer a premium sound that you can adjust to your liking.

I’m gonna give you a tip here, the instructions tell you to put your phone in pairing mode and then hold the button down for three seconds and it does that, and if that doesn’t work take the silicon ear tips off. I had these for a good four hours and couldn’t figure out why they wouldn’t go into pairing mode and it was because the skin that I had on there to fit my ears was not making contact and I had checked next-gen, I checked the insulation on the new skin and everything was fine, it was connecting fine but when I took that skin off and went right into pairing mode. When you take the earbuds from the case to your ear it automatically connects, there’s maybe a second delay so, that’s a great thing.

Then I didn’t like the fact that I have to take this with me as it would not connect without the case. If these come disconnected because I’ve gotten too far away from something, then I got to go back and get this. Sometimes that does happen when you connected things to the watch where the ear pod earbuds will get disconnected and you’ll have to either resync them or you have to go back and get the case.

If you’re somebody active, you sweat a lot, maybe you swim, you want something this waterproof, rainproof, may be trained in rain, definitely give these a shot. Here you are getting pretty good sound quality, Bluetooth 5.0 from which you get the most secure connection possible, fast charge, worked as advertised everything was pretty much as advertised.

Jaybird Run XT

Most of the functionality from the button presses is all there although I do appreciate having Google assistant in the left earbud or Siri that is at my fingertips, but what we don’t have or all the features available at the same time. Within the app, you have to choose in the settings either default controls or alternative controls. If you choose default controls you get Google assistance or Siri which is awesome but you only have pause and play, you can’t use that left earbud to adjust your volume down with your right earbud.

When we go alternative controls it’s basically vice-versa, I’ll lose the Google assistance or Siri, and then it loses the pause and play feature, unfortunately, you have to pick and choose. I really don’t like this feature that I have to take up my phone to adjust the volume. That is not better during a workout especially during a run or simply having the convenience of just sitting at my desk there and then if I need to adjust volume again don’t want to take out my phone but you have to again pick and choose. I wish Jaybird found a different way to do this.

The only other feature that I found missing Jabra calls it as hear through and Sennheiser themselves calls it transparency mode, the Run XTs’ basically doesn’t include a feature like those other competitors, they don’t include a function that allows the outside environment, the noises around you to be pumped in through the microphones for safety or simply awareness. So, with the run XTs,’ these are 100% passive noise isolation earphones which I do love though and these do block out a lot of noise, these barely sound leaked as well, but having the option for runners to hear their environment while listening to music would have been nice. I personally use it again for safety reasons. It’s actually a plus for most people you have the ability to leave only one of these earphones in your ear.

Like Sennheiser Momentum’s true Wireless, you can only leave the right earphone in if you choose to leave only the left one in like that we can do with the Jaybirds here and the right earphone goes into your pocket, so it’s not going to work with the Jaybird Run XTs’. You don’t have that problem I can confirm that you can either switch either/or and put the other one in your pocket and you still can listen out what’s going on around you.

Touching base on Bluetooth performance oddly, we’re still at also Bluetooth 4.1 although Bluetooth 5.0 has been out for a while and older technology but let you know what my testing showed with signal strength. I’m able to achieve 82 linear feet of range with one wall in between and that’s really good for older Bluetooth technology.

I tested these with watching videos also but I didn’t have any video syncing issues with Netflix or YouTube that’s a huge plus, twitch on the other hand had horrible delays but I’m aware these are dedicated sport earphones. Testing this for those with iPhones, Netflix was slightly off, youtube and twitch were horribly off sync, I also never had issues with the right or left earbud cutting out and not playing as well.

When we get into the app right there on the dashboard you have several presets right on the home screen. Go to the equalizer this is where you can adjust all your settings, it’s very intuitive and very easy to use, making an adjustment does not ruin the audio. I like a slightly brighter sound signature. When we go to the Jaybird app on the bass level, you can adjust it too but I just leave it exactly where it is.

Next up, there are the settings Find my bud option. I love this feature not many competitors offer this. You’re able to find your last location of where you last left your earphones, it’s not 100% precise but it’s a pretty good indication. Hopefully, it’s showing where you are with the earbud at last, or it will remind you of where you last left your earbuds so that you can go back to that area and look for them.

I think the XTs’ is executing at a very good level whether we talk about battery life or tumble comfort and fit. We’re getting the IPX7 rating not only that but a sound signature. The negatives such as the button functionality or lack of button functionality, the lack of transparency mode, video playback are somewhat shot, there you can say a USB 2.0 and the case it’s one of those things where if you don’t care for it or if you don’t need it for video, you don’t care about the USB 2.0.

The Jaybirds are still an excellent choice for the price the only other competitor that has an IPX7 rating that’s a completely mainstream here is the Jabra Elite sport that does come with some extra features, all the button functionalities, but keep in mind those do retail for 219 dollars it’s a little bit more expensive.

BATTERY AND ITS LIFE:

The box claims that they have 6 hours’ worth of playtime, 10 hours in the charging case, so a total of 16 hours. As they said, the battery life used real-world usage probably is about six hours, about what I got out of them and that’s right what they said six hours, so I was happy with that. They have a fast charging feature, 5 minutes of charging gives 1 hour of playtime, which I like the most personally.

Jaybird Run XT

Getting into Battery life, it’s still decent for hours and the earbuds themselves with another eight hours from the charging case so that’s a total of 12 hours. A quick charge is available with only five minutes in the case and you can get up to an hour of playback back. I did run my battery test at 50% and I achieved four hours and 53 minutes which was very similar to the first generation.

SOUND:

It really has great sound, the EQ allows you to really personalize your sound based on what you like, you listen to rap if you listen to rock, if you listen to acoustic music you like a lot of mids, a lot of highs, a lot of basses, you can pretty much set this up any way you want.

One thing that I want to point out to you all is that when I listen to these, the sound was great and I was able to get about 40 feet from my phone before I disconnected, but when I disconnected it took me to have to put them back in the case to reconnect. So if you want to leave your case in the locker, you got to make sure your phone is within 35-40 feet because if you don’t, you have to put them back in there to reconnect. This is just what I experienced with these. Another thing I experienced is every now and then, you would get a crackle like a crunch down.

I was happy with the sound, I think this is for the active person. What really blew me away is the call quality, the call quality was phenomenal. I checked the call quality with these and it sounded crystal clear. So, the call quality on these is actually pretty good. The only problem I had is that they were crackling my left ear, one the constant pressure in my ear which I don’t like.

For the average person who’s not stuck on air pods, this is a definite. The big debate is going on about which one is better between this and the Jabra 75t’s and to me from what I’ve heard the 75t’s might have a little bit better sound but if you need to make phone calls the 75t’s something like a tin can. Jaybirds are clear when it comes to calling quality.

If you like bass, if you like full sound, you’re definitely gonna get a lot of bass out of these and maybe not as much as a Jabra but close, and again you can set it up the way you want to. I couldn’t get that sound that I wanted because I’m a little bit hard of hearing and it’s like I want that low bass, but I want the mids to be up high and I just couldn’t get that sound that I was hearing without pulling it up to full blast, and I don’t want to do full blast I will see them hard-of-hearing. So, the sound quality is pretty good.

Jaybird Run XT

When I used this for phone calls, my voice is audible and at the forefront which is great news but like most other earphones they do pick up a good bit of environmental noises.

Getting into the audio performance, I really love the Jaybird sound signature, not because it’s the most accurate if anything is the furthest from being accurate but it’s loud, it’s in your face, it’s great for pop, EDM, hip-hop, genres that I personally listen. For those looking for balance or accuracy, these are not really it’s but if you’re looking for more of an alive sound signature that’s what the Jaybird Run XT’s are for.

Starting with the bass, these are surely bass-boosted earphones. It’s fast thumping bass with some residents here, it’s not deep thunderous bass, but more than plenty for the after mention generous. I would caution though, the mid-range is clear enough for most, there is though an ever so slight amount of bass spilling over that prevents the mid-range from shining a bit further, we can address some of this in the app.

After testing a good bit of truly wireless earphones over the years, I do notice the Jaybirds not having an expansive or having a wide soundstage. The Run XTs’ have excellent left and right audio separation but that specialness is not there. It doesn’t take away from the music but a wide soundstage always helps with the experience. The high frequencies are not screeching or over piercing but could use a bit more resolution or detail.

WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?

In my opinion, if you’re in the 150 to 180 dollar price range, the Jaybird Vista would be very good for you. As far as the price here, both the products come under the same price range but in my point of view, the Vista is better than the Run XT because of the looks which attract me a lot and the magnet inside the case that holds the earbuds in their place without falling which is missing in Run XT.
