A luxury laptop with a high-quality finish and high-quality components, but we’d drop down to a Full HD screen.

Expert Reviews for Dell XPS 13 9380 (2019):

By HotHardware
The Dell XPS 13 7390 is a premium laptop in every way, from its understated industrial design and razer-sharp 4K IPS touch-enabled display to its excellent performance. While we really miss Dell’s Ice Lake processor options from the 2-in-1 version, we’re still confident in bestowing this machine a HotHardware Recommended award.

Inevitably, every convertible design has its trade-offs but, for my money, the XPS 13 2-in-1 is the most attractive take I’ve seen on the idea. Dell has created a superb, uncompromising laptop, which just happens to also offer the convenient option of…

The six-core XPS 13 is a strange computer. It feels like a holdover until something better is available in both design and internals. That first part probably isn’t too far off, since CES 2020 is just about a month away, but it’s hard to say how long it will be before Intel introduces Ice Lake chips that have six cores, a 10-nanometer die, and the improved Iris Plus Graphics. Once that happens, then we’ll have some real performance jumps in the thin and light category to celebrate.

The Dell XPS 13 is a great all-around clamshell laptop, with a beautiful design and a small footprint. My biggest complaints are that there’s no IR camera – particularly that Dell gave us facial recognition and then took it away – and there’s no USB…

DESIGN

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon:

I’m impressed the 14 inch laptop may have a no-nonsense business only aesthetic but it feels more luxurious, than his exterior let’s on this year lenovo added a carbon fiber weave to the lid to update the x ones look a little and i appreciate the effort to keep things fresh though you can only get it on the UHD model more important than the appearance is the material.

Dell XPS 13 9380 (2019):

Dell XPS averaged 11 frames per second versus an average of 35 on the mate book X Pro albeit with a few hiccups probably down to the throttling and it’s not just games if I fire up Premiere Pro five-minute 1080p video took 26 minutes to export on the Dell but it’s just 12 minutes and 15 on the Huawei and that’s using last year’s I 78550 you in Dells favor.

WEIGHT & DIMENSIONS

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon:

Lenovo x1 carbon is one of the  thinner and lighter laptop you have seen.

Dell XPS 13 9380 (2019):

The weight is nearly around 2.7 lbs (1.23 kg). Dimension of the laptop is nearly 11.9 x 7.8 x 0.3-0.46 inches (302 x 199 x 7.8-11.6 mm).

KEYBOARD AND TOUCHPAD

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon:

It have great keyboards and the excellent carbon once again gets it right mostly anyway, I love the deep travel and comfortable keys and typing on a think pad feels like a luxury compared to the merely decent keyboards on the laptops you and maple 14. I have an issue with some of the button placements on the x1 carbon in particular. I hate where the left control button sits instead of being the left mouse button on the bottom row it’s actually the second-last and a function key sits on the end.

Dell XPS 13 9380 (2019):

For the keyboard and touchpad are still among the best on any laptop out there in my opinion they reliable comfortable and lovely to use one thing I’m noticing as, I’m typing and using the XPS is just how loud the touchpad is you don’t have to click in and of course but if you’re using this on the train or in the office next to someone in a quiet environment they’re gonna get really annoyed with you very quickly so loud so then should you buy the new XPS 13 9.

PORT SELECTION

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon:

For the x1 generous array of connectivity options which include two, Thunderbolt 3 USB seaports and HDMI socket to USB HX and an Ethernet extension that’s much more than you’ll find on the likes of the huawei make book 14 and surface laptop 2 which doesn’t even offer us peace see power charging ThinkPads consistently.

Dell XPS 13 9380 (2019):

For the ports as long as you’re happy with us BC and Thunderbolt 3 then you will set a single USB type A or even a full-size SD card reader it would have been nice but I guess that’s the compromise with small form factors like this. I do like though how it uses a USB C power adapter so you don’t have to bring an extra charger with you for your phone if you’re going out and about the speakers are the same as before we’ve got one on each side just on the edge of the palm rest and they were unchanged.

DISPLAY

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon:

I have a small complaint about the display when using the keyboard buttons to toggle brightness the increase between each step up is uneven for levels 1 to 9 the screen gets gradually brighter by about the same amount each time but from 9 to the maximum 10 the jump is huge and almost blinding. Lenovo told me this is normal for the x1 it might not be a huge issue but I was confused why the screen was so dim until, I pushed brightness through the 500 maximum.

Dell XPS 13 9380 (2019):

For the bezels look particularly nice on the 4k model which flanked the gorgeous 13.3 inch HDR display so you can do a bit of Netflix and well whatever goes with Netflix but now in vibrant HDR now all we need is an OLED option which is actually coming to the XPS 15 in March.I reckon next year for the next Dell XPS we will see an OLED option which would be pretty cool so it’s a good-looking laptop overall but personally. I do think the white defrost white looks a bit nicer than this standard silver and black

BATTERY

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon:

I unplugged my UHD model at noon and it wasn’t until about 7 p.m. that, I got a low battery warning on our battery tests the lower res Full HD x1 carbon lasted 14 hours which twice as long as the seven hours clocked by my UHD version on the same test the higher res model also has a brighter screen which might have caused more drain despite a smattering of small complaints.

Dell XPS 13 9380 (2019):

For all of us battery life has always been a selling point of these XPS laptops but with this 4k model you’ll only just get a full workday out of it obviously the high-resolution has a big impact on the battery life I averaged nine hours of use which is actually still fairly decent but if battery life is more important to you than a sharper glossy HDR touchscreen go for the full HD model which will last about 30% longer so around 13 hours.

PERFORMANCE

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon:

For ThinkPad x1 carbon is one of the most established laptops around and this year’s model marks the seventh iteration, of a series just like everyone before it this what else is new well there’s a brighter you HD display with HDR 400 support a better sound system more far-field microphones and the usual processor and performance upgrades.

Dell XPS 13 9380 (2019):

For the basis performance and well it is lacking in the graphics department the XPS is far from slow my model with the quad core i7 16 gigs of ram and fast nvme 512gb SSD feels nippy and responsive in general use the new whiskey Lake View processors aren’t a huge upgrade over last year’s but with higher turbo boost clock speeds combined with improved cooling so it doesn’t total as much it actually performs really well but overall we’re looking at about 10% boost in performance.

CONCLUSION

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon:

For the build, keyboard and performance and battery life is great if you don’t mind a less sharp and less bright screen for its $1200 starting price though the exo carbon has serious competition specifically from the likes of the surface laptops you and huawei mate but 14 which are is similarly powerful albeit arguably more attractive the laptop 2 also lasts longer but Lenovo’s appealing keyboard alone.

Dell XPS 13 9380 (2019):

At the stage of strong competition from the likes of the mate book X Pro, which as I say we may see a newer version of coming soon and also the assumes M book series the razor blade stealth new MacBook Air, or even the Microsoft Surface laptop – there’s a lot of laptops a lot of competition in that premium ultra book space so it does feel like Dell needs to do something a little bit new next year but for now this is still a very very good laptop.
