INTRODUCTION:

Logitech MX Ergo

After Logitech M570 Trackball, Logitech has finally released a new and improved wireless trackball mouse which could easily become the best ergonomic mouse on the market which is MX Ergo Trackball. This mouse costs just under $100.

If you have some severe wrist and shoulder pain, you should get a wireless trackball mouse. In this, you just only move your thumb to move the cursor around your screen.

DESIGN & COMFORT:

In the box, there’s the MX Ergo Trackball Mouse, a charging cable, a Logitech unifying receiver, and probably the most important piece that is the magnetic metal hinge. Now, this hinge snaps onto the bottom of the MX Ergo unless you use the trackball at two different angles based on your own personal preference and this is definitely the best feature about this trackball in my opinion because of the ability to switch between angles is great for improving a wrist posture.

The MX Ergo also claims to reduce muscular strain by 20% compared to a standard mouse. The overall design is excellent. It’s definitely made of high-quality materials. It’s big enough and feels solid in hand and the way it’s made and sculpted provides full support for the palm to rest on and scrolling is not awkward or tiring. The bulk of the top of the mouse is made up of a soft rubber which gives a nice comfortable grip. The bottom of the hinge has a good non-slip finish on it which helps the trackball stay in position when using it.

The design of this mouse looks like the normal mouse but with a trackball. This trackball helps you to get relief from wrist and shoulder pains and even carpal tunnel syndrome. This mouse is designed in that way to give you some relaxation, especially for your hands, and also work through the mouse with relaxation.

The materials used in the mouse make this solid and as it is Logitech, we don’t have to worry about the build quality. The design is also nice and new in the mouse world. 

FEATURES & PERFORMANCE:

Logitech MX Ergo

It has normal left and right-click buttons on top and the scroll wheel can not only scroll up and down, but it can also tilt for left and right scrolling and it can also be pressed down to click. There’s an easy switch button on top that lets you instantly switch between two computers without repairing and you can also copy and paste data between the two computers with a ‘Logitech Flow’. Now, both of those features do require the free Logitech options software which can be downloaded from Logitech’s website, and this software is not required to use the trackball but it does give you more features and customization tools.

The trackball itself has been smooth and accurate so far and it does not feel loose but for those of you who are not familiar with using a trackball, there is a convenient precision mode button near the ball. So, you can easily adjust the cursor speed and sensitivity allowing for faster and more precise control.

Now, the MX Ergo is compatible with the latest versions of Windows and Mac, and even though, it does come with a USB unifying receiver that allows you to wirelessly connect up to six Logitech devices, the MX Ergo does have built-in Bluetooth. So, if you’d rather just use that instead of using the unifying receiver you can.

Logitech Trackball M570

It has a thumb control trackball nice and big and has backward and forward buttons. Now, the scroll wheel and also has a button that you can use and has left and right buttons. One of the things that this mouse is lacking is the software to actually assign macros to or reassign the buttons. You kind of stuck using the existing buttons that they have mapped out here on the mouse. So, I consider that one of the disadvantages of using this trackball mouse.

Sometimes you need more space for full-motion to move your cursor around the screen and sometimes you don’t have enough space, so having a Trackball Mouse allows you to have a smaller footprint on the desk without having you to actually lift your mouse up and use that full range of motion. It allowing you to kind of use that limited space that you were given, so that’s another value as well. Another advantage is you can use on any type of surface such as a carpet or on the bed where you don’t have that optical mouse just doesn’t read off the surface, it’s another advantage. By using this mouse, you may feel good for your wrist and shoulder pains.

There are two cons that I can think of we’re using the Trackball Mouse. The first one is the trackball if you’re using it, it can get dirty very quickly which sometimes blocking the sensor, and sometimes the accuracy of the trackball is not working correctly. You can clean the part where the trackball placed by popping out the ball on the back of the mouse. The sensor will not work if your skin cells just get into the sensors. The second con is people would judge you for using this mouse, especially if you use this in a work environment, someone new who meets you for the first time may question you why you’re using this trackball mouse.

BATTERY:

Now, it does have a rechargeable battery inside that can potentially last up to four months on a full charge depending on your usage. What’s really cool is that just one minute of charging usually gives enough charge for a day’s worth of work, which is super convenient for a wireless trackball or any wireless mouse for that matter.

The battery life in this mouse is just amazing which is 18 months of battery life on a single full charge. Comparing to the MX Ergo, this mouse has four times more battery life which is good. 

WHICH TO BUY?

Considering the features and purpose of both these mice, both of them work well. If you have a tight budget and want long battery life, Logitech Trackball M570 is good to buy. If you have some more money to spend, then MX Ergo is best at its feature and purpose of giving a comfortable mouse for your hands.

I really recommend that you be able to try it out before you purchase one to make sure that it fits your work style and working at it.
