The Siberia 200 doesn’t quite live up to the high standards of SteelSeries’ previous models, but fit, comfort, and audio quality are all acceptable. To be sure, the Siberia 200 trends more toward class-average. It also excludes anyone with a head circumference larger than ~60cm.

So I set out at the start of this article to find out how much had changed between the Siberia v2 and the 6Gv2 to the Siberia 200 and the Apex M500. Well the move to the Siberia 200 required just a few tweaks to the cord where going to the Apex M500…

INTRODUCTION:

Steelseries Siberia 200

This headset has a good design and a nice fit. The sound quality is also quite good but the mic is a little bit poor. But, overall it’s a nice headset.

Steelseries Arctis 3

You all know that the Arctis line of the headsets is popular for their performance in gaming. This one also gives you a nice package of comfort, sound quality, and decent features for gaming.

DESIGN:

Steelseries Siberia 200

You might wonder that this does look very similar to the v2. It is just a model later after the V2, it looks very similar and it has a similar set of features. One interesting thing about this headset other than the choice of color in its design is the strap on the top. By the way, it is very rigid and works really well.

I bring up this a lot because it really looks and feels like V2 except that it’s a little bit more matte but overall there are actually quite beautiful headphones. They come in different colors, they come in a black and gold version.

Steelseries Arctis 3

You obviously have the sort of a ski goggles headband at the top. This is a pretty nice design actually means that there’s no adjustability in height-wise to the ear cups. Although the ear cups do swivel and rotate, so they actually fit basically any head pretty well.

COMFORT:

Steelseries Siberia 200

The strap will adjust to your head form. So, you don’t have any like mechanisms on the side to adjust the headphones to your size, they will pretty much just fit and it’s a system that works surprisingly well. It fits really well and feels really nice.

The material that covers the ear padding is leather. So, it’s comfortable and gives a nice feel. There are also quite enough padding in the ear cups.

Steelseries Arctis 3

When it comes to comfort, the headset is really pretty impressive. It does a very nice job at being very comfortable on my head, the actual foam on the ear cups themselves are actually very nice and plush.

There’s actually very little actual sort of head pressure or clamping force which is very nice as well. Overall, this is a very comfortable experience that I’d be happy wearing for extended periods of time while gaming or just generally listening to music.

FEATURES:

Steelseries Siberia 200

There’s a control on the cable itself. One of the features that it has is the microphone switch and volume control on the side which is a nice feature and in the previous version, it was glossy and this one is definitely matted. You can just turn off your mic with a switch which is a nice little selling point.

One thing that I noticed on this is that this does not have a removable cable, just like the V2 this one is stuck to it. I always like headphones where you can remove the cable, it’s just not as feasible with headsets like these. Another feature is the headset has the retractable mic just like the V2.

The cable is not braided which is a bummer, I do like braided cables that would have been definitely a plus but this is just regular plastic. it’s about nine feet long.

Steelseries Arctis 3

One of the cool things about this headset is that you actually have dual audio support. So, you can connect to your phone like to the Bluetooth connection, and then you can connect the wired connection to your bass listen to Nintendo switch but basically any device. Then, you can have your Bluetooth audio streaming to the headset at the same time as the analog input audio which is actually really pretty awesome means that you can play music on your phone while you’re using this headset as your standard PC gaming headset. You can just control all of that from your phone.

On the bottom of the left ear cup, you have the microphone mute switch, the volume rocker, the proprietary connection that only their cables work with, and a 3.5 mm jack which is going to directly plug this into an analog audio device. You have the micro USB port which is used for charging the built-in battery and the retractable microphone which actually comes out quite a long way and gives a lot of adjustability in where you want to sit it.

On the right-hand side ear cup, you have the Bluetooth button which is also the power button for the Bluetooth sides, you have to hold it down to be able to turn the headset on in terms of the Bluetooth mode. Then, you can also hold it longer to enable it in pairing mode, so you can connect new devices.

Inside the box, you get four cables. One of them is the proprietary cable that connects basically all of the other cables to their final output device. You also have the proprietary to 4-pole jack and the proprietary three-pole Jack, microphone headphone jacks, and then you have the micro USB cable. The micro USB cable is purely for charging, it’s not a direct connection to your PC for audio for example. You’re just gonna have to use the standard 3.5 mm for those, otherwise, it is a pretty nice setup and especially with the length of the cables, they’re actually pretty well sized for the different options that you’d have for 4-pole or for the more kind of extended three-pole adapters.

These are obviously closed-back headphones as well. So, you have a little bit more chance of actually being a nice passenger on the train or the bus or whatever you’re traveling on and not having everyone on the bus hear your music.

MICROPHONE:

Steelseries Siberia 200

The little disappointment is actually the headset microphone. I would have really loved if they put a better microphone in but this is pretty much the same quality as the Siberia V2. There’s a little bit of different finish but on that, the microphone quality of the headset itself is pretty low quality and there’s way better out there even for the $80 price point.

It is really nice to retract it and if you don’t care about your microphone quality, it is a nice added feature that you can use. On TeamSpeak, it’s gonna sound really bad.

Steelseries Arctis 3

There’s a retractable mic in the headset. So, you can push it in whenever you don’t want to use the mic, so it also seems like a normal headphone. It seems like a pretty decent quality microphone. The sound of the mic is very and crisp, so it will be great for gaming and any other informal works.

SOUND:

Steelseries Siberia 200

I’ve been listening to a little bit of it. It gave all spin. This is like something you would expect for 80 dollars. It’s not the best-sounding headphones I’ve ever been wearing but nothing is out of place or too strong or too low. Sometimes, it sounds a little bit flat. These ones are nice and they work really great out of the box.

Steelseries Arctis 3

For the audio quality, they actually do a pretty decent job. They’re not the best, they’re certainly better headsets for that the pristine audio quality if you are more of an audiophile but so if you’re someone who wants a decent quality headset that’s comfortable and has decent quality audio then this is certainly an interesting option.

They added feature of Bluetooth, especially with the dual audio inputs is pretty interesting and they marked it purely for the Nintendo switch in all of the documentation but this would work very well for any gaming setup whether it’s on a console or on PC. I think you’d have a pretty decent experience with this, so I’m not entirely sure whether focusing solely on the switch.

WHICH TO BUY?

In my opinion, the Steelseries Arctis 3 will be better to buy then the Siberia 200 headset. I think the sound of headphone and mic, comfort, and the features of Arctis 3 is better than Siberia 200. Also, the price is a little bit less than the Siberia 200 headset.
