This is the review comparison between two speakers of different brands i.e. Tribit and JBL, which are well-known and popular brands, especially JBL as Tribit is a new brand, but still, people are liking it. Tribit StormBox and JBL Flip 4 both are great speakers with amazing audio quality. Both have different design and features. The price gap between both speakers is around $20. INTRODUCTION:

Tribit StormBox

The storm box is a portable Bluetooth speaker that is perfect for the kind of setup they can fit all inside one backpack. This Bluetooth speaker includes a battery that is rated to last for 20 hours. The actual playtime may vary but it is more than likely enough to last for the entire length of a party. And if that isn’t enough for you, you can connect the speaker to a USB power bank, to keep the party going even longer. Tribit StormBox pairs well with a laptop setup and with something like a smaller channel controller. The speaker gives 360 Degrees sound too. It is IPX7, which means it is waterproof too.

JBL Flip 4

The JBL Flip 4 is a great speaker and way better and heavier than Flip 3, which is itself a successor. Everything has been improved in JBL Flip 4. The flip 4 is slightly bigger and slightly heavier as its width is 2.7in, depth is 2.8in, height is 6.9in, and the weight is 18.16 oz it’s a minor increase but still, a flip 4 is very portable and very compact for most people’s needs. The JBL Flip 4 is not only splash-proof but JBL finally have the feature IPX7 rating which means it is fully submersible in water, it can go underwater up to 1 meter or 3.3 feet for those on the imperial system and for up to 30 minutes.  The battery life of the speaker is up to 12 hours. 

DESIGN: 

Tribit StormBox

The speaker has a slim design and the overall build feels solid. It has a mesh lining all around. The ends of the speakers have a raised rugged finish to them and it has a handy carrying strap too, so it makes it easy for us to carry anywhere. On the front of the speakers you have large visible buttons of plus(+) and minus (-) and they control the volume levels and a multi-function button. On the back, you’ll find the power button, battery level indicator, Bluetooth pairing button, and, the X-bass button. Underneath the rubber cover, you’ll find the aux input and the charging port.

The speaker does have two passive radiators on both sides. The speaker comes in at about 7 inches in length and it’s roughly 2 and a half inches wide. It weighs in at roughly 578 grams. The speaker is also available in 3 colours black, blue, and, camo. Behind the cell door, you also get auxiliary input and your charging input too. The rubber flap which houses the aux port and the micro USB port are really hard to remove, but the good thing is it adds to the point that this speaker is IPX7 rated, so you can drop this thing into the water.

JBL Flip 4

The speaker looks very nice and even smells nice. The speaker has some nice magnets and looks nice overall. The nylon fabric makes a return and offers a very rugged experience. The passive radiators are made out of plastic but they feel very nice looks like they were made out of glass and so not like plastic. I really thought it would look very cheap but it looks actually very nice. The speaker is available in 7 8 colours, so we do have the option to choose the colour we like. The passive radiators on both side of the speaker actually look quite nice, better than I expected them to look and also the other side says JBL on it. Also, there are buttons more buttons downside which is a power button with five white LEDs which indicates the battery life of the speaker.

There is a JBL connect plus button and comparing to last year’s speaker it had JBL connect where you were only able to pair with max two speakers and works with those speakers which are JBL connect speaker, but with the plus versions you’re now not limited to just two but you can connect over a hundred of these speakers all at the same time and all of them would play in sync, and that’s perfect for those trying to fill up a room but the speaker should have JBL connect plus feature. The only problem is if many of you already purchased a JBL charge 3 or maybe the JBL Xtreme, the Plus version doesn’t even pair with last year’s model the flip 4 cannot pair with any other speaker unless it’s another flip 4 or until JBL releases new models and maybe into the future then you can mix and match and sync two speakers or more together.

FEATURES:

Tribit StormBox

This speaker sounds excellent and the battery is also good and on top of that, you can pair two of them together. About the specs first of all Tibit StormBox have Bluetooth 4.2 version and it supports most audio sources. It has 2 Driver, size 45mm each and 2 passive radiator. It has a two-channel amplifier with 12 watts on each channel, the frequency response is 70 Hertz all the way up to 20,000 kilohertz. It takes 4 hours to charge the speaker and with only four hours of charging it you can get up to 20 hours of play. Signal-to-noise ratio is >80dB. It weighs 545g. So, overall this speaker is good. Battery-wise this has a 2600 milliamp-hour battery inside, it takes about four hours maybe a bit more than that to charge with the supplied micro USB cable, you just plug it into the micro USB charging port in there, plug it into a charger and away you go so that’s under a little flap that keeps it waterproof.

As mentioned earlier, this speaker runs on Bluetooth 4.2, the result of that is that the range is not as good Bluetooth 5 has a better range than 4.2 and the claimed range on this by Tribit is 20 meters or 66 feet, I took this outside just to give it a test out and attach to the side of my golf bag, line of sight 40 meters I got before the signal started to drop out and that was with both an android modern android phone and an iPhone as well. So, they both gave a very good range of 40 meters, if I had the speaker on the other side of my golf bag and my body between the phone and the and the speakers the range was reduced to around about 20 meters but that still heaps if your music’s still playing at 20 meters away from your speaker, that’s great.

Next to that also is a 3.5-millimetre audio input socket plug as well, so that will allow you to plug in other devices that don’t have Bluetooth which is a great feature, a lot of other speakers out there don’t have the 3.5-millimetre jack. Tribit claimed that it has a 20-hour battery life but this, of course, is probably when it’s playing at minimum volume, I haven’t worn my battery out yet I’ve had it playing for a number of hours and yet still showing full charge on the LEDs. Other people online have said they get at least 12 hours at max volume, some up to 16. So yeah plenty of life and that is quite good. So, you can check the battery level when you turn the device on so you hold the power button and you’ll see the LEDs will light up and that tells you how much charge it has.

JBL Flip 4

 The box and the packaging just like always is very nice and it is a bit smaller than usual. Under the box with JBL Flip 4, you got the cables, some manuals, and, warranty. When you will turn this speaker on, the typical sound comes which you can call typical JBL welcome tones and it instantly goes to pairing mode. Underneath the speaker, you have some normal parts Micro-USB for charging and Auxilary to connect devices via cable. The speaker is IPX7, which means it waterproof but one negative point is the speaker does not float which is quite a letdown. So, it will drop down and won’t in the water or pool.

On the speaker there are buttons too, the Bluetooth pairing on the far left, volume up and down, and, to the far right is pause and play or if you use the app to change it you can use the same button to call up Siri or your Google assistant. Besides those options you can answer phone calls with that little triangle and but personally when I tested, it didn’t sound as expected, from two feet away from the speaker my voice was audible but it had slight raspiness and on the other end they were able to tell that was clearly on a speakerphone. At four feet away my voice sounded very raspy then there was an echo similar to me speaking and similar while in the bathroom and it sounded much further away from that it was somewhat annoying for the person at the other end.

On the speaker there is a shield flap, there’s an auxiliary port for physical connections and right next to that is the micro USB port for charging the device. The speaker claims the battery life up to 12hrs and as per my testing at 50% volume 14 hours of playback that the maximum went and it still had 50% battery life remaining, that’s phenomenal. And at 100% maximum volume, the speaker lasted exactly four hours and a speaker also does slightly warm-up at higher volumes but didn’t notice anything hazardous about it. Also, your signal strength on this is good and the Bluetooth technology is nearly perfect, I did test the flip 4 never cut out or skip on signal strength.

SOUND QUALITY:

Tribit StormBox

The sounds it puts out are very good for this little speaker. The bass is tight and punchy and prominent. You can also turn on the X-bass for more bass if you want. Mids and highs of the speaker come in clear, it’s not too bright sounding and you get a good amount of trouble. Volume levels can be turned up at a high level with no issues and I didn’t experience any Distortion. Testing it with video I didn’t experience any noticeable latency. You also won’t have to worry about placement as it offers 360-degree coverage. The fact that it’s waterproof and it can easily be used for many outdoor activities.

The sound quality of this speaker is amazing and it gives 360 degrees of sound. So in plenty of volumes, you will notice that the sound comes out of the two side speakers, so I wouldn’t say it’s fully 360 degrees omnidirectional but yes it’s not bad, the sound doesn’t vary too much as you will spin it around and you will see that the passive speakers inside will pump away with the bass sound. But soundwise if you will turn the extra bass boost off, you will see it goes a little bit more treble but not a huge amount of difference between the bass boosts on or off but it’s got plenty of basses as it is, so no real issues there.

JBL Flip 4

It is very easy to connect the JBL flip to the phone. JBL Flip 4 sounds so much better than the flip 3 and other old speakers of JBL. Flip 4 is a great speaker it gives so much clarity and so much precision. The flip is a bit softer in some speaker, but way nicer and cleaner sounding also keeping more Trevor with less intermodulation. The audio quality of this speaker is definitely amazing. But one thing to keep in mind is the flip 4 does fall into the small speaker category, it’s not meant for big rooms but this little speaker can for sure fill up the small places like small bedrooms or the dorm rooms and at full volume, it can fill a medium-sized room quite well. The large open room surprisingly does not sound tiny at all and it is still very much enjoyable for personal listening.

But for entertainment, the sound will be slightly suppressed. At 50 to 60 per cent volume it is comfortable listening it’s full of bass that is not distorted or raspy at a very punchy character. At maximum volume, the bass levels stay the same but the mid-range and highs are now further emphasised, the mid-range is clear, very distinguishable especially at high volumes which is great and the mid-range of vocals and instruments are pushed forward. But despite being forward the small speaker still lacks detail or resolution but again it is small and the price is only $80, which is reasonable. So, at maximum volume, you do lose resolution or details at the very top and the high frequencies do slightly jumble a bit. Overall, the performance is still phenomenal. As for a soundstage like most Bluetooth speakers out there there’s hardly any audio separation unless you go the JBL connect plus route.

WHICH TO BUY?

If you’re in the market for a portable speaker that throws out a ton of sound, can be used with your DJ set up and doesn’t break the bank, it’s worth taking a look at the Tribit StormBox. This speaker is plagued with a lot of problems like audio latency or not so tactile back buttons. But where this speaker actually hits the bull’s eye is with the sound quality, so if you are someone who listens to a lot of podcast or hip-hop or jazz or any other music, this speaker is for you. JBL Flip 4 is an undoubtedly amazing speaker, but keep in mind it does not float when you compare it to some of the competition out there it is somewhat of a letdown if you do drop us into the lake and you’re unable to see where it fell or if you’re unable to dive and get it, it’s basically gone forever.

Tribit StormBox costs $62, while JBL Flip 4 costs $79.99. So, JBL Flip 4 is expensive than Tribit StormBox. If your budget is low go for Tribit StormBox and if your budget is high go for JBL Flip 4.
