Bose Portable Home Speaker

The Bose Portable Home Speaker is a popular speaker from the Bose from the day of its launch itself. This speaker is retailing for quite a higher price that is around three hundred and fifty dollars. This speaker gets connected by both Bluetooth and WI-Fi. As with all other Bose products this speaker also has a premium quality to it.

Marshall Kilburn 2

The Marshall brand is popular with guitar amps and pedals for quite a long time but in the last few years, they have started to manufacture their variety of headphones and speakers. In that way, they have introduced their Marshall Kilburn portable speaker previously and now they have upgraded their original version and introduced Marshall Kilburn 2 that is retailing for around three hundred dollars.

You have got all the button controls on the top, so you have got the power button, your Bluetooth to turns it off or on, plus and minus buttons for volume up and down, and you can see the white light that goes around the speaker represents the volume but obviously you can also just ask Alexa to set the volume to whatever percent you want, then you have your play-pause button, and that button will skip a track on double-tapping it., then you have the mute button for your mic so your voice assistant won’t hear you, and last will be a button to activate Alexa.

It was bigger than I expected and it’s bigger than it looks in the pictures but it weighs just over a kilogram I think, so that does make it nice and easy to take around, use outside, and whatnot. You could carry this for hours you’d never have any problems whereas a speaker like Hyperboom is definitely has a different story because that is very large. In comparison to the Hyberboom, for its size, the Bose Portable Home Speaker is really good to carry around. When you turn the speaker on, it will give you the voice prompt of the battery of your speaker and it is a bit robotic.

Marshall Kilburn 2

At first glance, the speaker looks like the original speaker but when we look into it properly we will notice many changes in terms of design, that’s been made on the original to make the newer version. There is the Marshall branding in the front of the speaker on the metal grille which is an upgrade because the original had the woven fabric. The removal of the gold accents gives a cleaner look to the speaker. The Kilburn 2 is also covered with the same faux leather finish as the original, and also, the corners are covered with strong plastic to improve the durability of the speaker.

On the top of the speaker, you have got rubber-coated analog controls to control your volume, bass, and treble. These knobs don’t have any smooth move, they move with slight hardly to give you the right level. Each knob is also numbered from 0 to 10 to get the right level of volume or bass or treble. Also, on the top, you have got your Bluetooth button and also an LED light that indicates whether your speaker is powered on or not. Also, on the top right, you have got the LED panel that shows the battery left in your speaker. On the back of the speaker is where you will find the charging port and the aux port.

The charging cradle doesn’t come with the speaker but you can buy it for extra money and it’s basically a wireless charger really because you don’t really need to do anything else. You have got an app called the Bose Music app for your speaker that you can download on your mobile phone. This is obviously a smart speaker, so it can be used as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth so it will be shown in the app that by what you have been connected currently. In the app, you can see Spotify and its settings, and also, you can group speakers within the app. You can actually group this with the Hyperboom quite easily even though they’re not from the same brand, which I thought was quite good. Then if you choose the source there, you can choose Apple AirPlay or Bluetooth which is quite nice.

The app also shows you the battery at the bottom there as well. Then you can edit the bass and the treble, through the EQ setting with the plus and minus there in the app and this goes up to 100 if you just tap that for enough times. Then we’ve got the settings up there so you can choose the voice assistant which is the main thing. So, when it’s connected to Wi-Fi, you can choose between Alexa and Google Assistant built-in. Then you can use this app or you can go into your own Spotify app and it will just connect through AirPlay at the bottom.

It’s also an IPX4 waterproof, so it’s not submersible but it’s definitely splashproof, dustproof, and it’s pretty rugged not as much as something like the Boombox 2 which is IPX7 but it does not be definitely not bad either. Apart from that, you have another great feature actually that is if you press the power button once when it’s on it puts it into a standby mode but Alexa will still listen to your voice and you’ll still be able to ask things with that and then if you hold it down that’s fully powered off.

Marshall Kilburn 2

This speaker is IPX2 water-resistant, which means it can go through some water splashes. This speaker also offers great portability through the leather carrying handle attached with the speaker and also, with the weight it has got to it. You are able to carry this around with you but not for a long time because it is not that weightless. It has two 8W tweeters and one 20W Class D amp which works as the woofer in it. This speaker can connect with multiple devices using Bluetooth 5.0 with 30 feet range and also, this speaker supports aptX for better quality audio. As the Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPad don’t support the AptX, for Apple devices this speaker also features the AirPlay protocol.

The battery life on this speaker is up to 20 hours which is really amazing about this speaker at this price range because other speakers in the market at this price range don’t provide this long hour of battery life. But this range is when you use the speaker at 50 volume. If you use the speaker at 100% volume then you must expect half of what the company claims which is around 10 dollars. This speaker also supports fast charging so 20 minutes of charging will give around 3 hours of playtime and it will take 2.5 hours to get fully charged from zero percentage.

SOUND QUALITY:

As far as the sound quality of this speaker, for the size, it’s absolutely phenomenal. I mean I’ve used it outside and I was able to hear it for miles and I went very far but it was loud enough. So, definitely, it packs a punch, it’s not a whole lot for the bass. It also features 360 degrees sound, so no matter which way the speaker is rotated, it will always sound like the sound is firing at you, which is very nice you can put it in the middle of a room everyone around it will be able to hear, very nice.

Marshall Kilburn 2

As far as the sound quality of Marshall Kilburn 2, if you are already a Marshall user then you know the sound profile of them and how well their products sound. This speaker does sound really good as like its predecessor. The bass was really powerful, and punchy but clear too. Even at high volumes the sound was very clear and doesn’t get distorted at all but there was little muddiness at max volume.

WHICH TO BUY?

In my opinion, Marshall Kilburn 2 is good for you to buy than the Bose Portable Home Speaker for its price range because it does sound really good and better than the Bose Portable Home Speaker. If we want a speaker our first preference would be good sound quality all other things is next to it. In that respect, the MarshallKilburn is really a good speaker to buy for you than the Bose Portable Home Speaker.
