Design & Build Quality

Corsair HS60 Pro Surround

The foam on the ear cuffs is extremely soft and my only concern with that may be the long-term usability of these if that foam slowly gets less and less resistant to being compressed. I could see the foam getting worn down a little bit at which point it would actually become a major problem for me that there’s no padding at the bottom of the headphone cups. So, your ears might start to sort of bottom out on those speaker grilles. We do have a metal frame on the headphones themselves as well as some softer touch plastics but these things do feel really solid in the hand. You can’t actually turn the earphones in and lay them flat, they’re just sort of stuck in one position which is not really a big deal. But, for travelers that may become a big problem.

We do have a mute button on the back of the left ear-cup as well as a volume scrolling wheel and the microphone. The cable itself for these headphones is about six feet long and it does terminate into a 3.5 millimeter jack. That’s a combination headphone and microphone jack which you can always apply a splitter to in case you want to split out to two separate 3.5 millimeter plugs which does not come in this headphone. They didn’t included the basic adapter which I would have loved to have seen equipped instead we have the USB dongle which is gonna enable the 7.1 simulated surround sound when it’s connected to a PC and when you’re running the IQ software. The IQ software where you control the equalizer and everything else with these headphones.

If you’re somebody that wants to actually use these out in public and maybe get rid of the microphone or possibly even use it, you can use this thing with a regular cell phone and you can actually hear them. The impedance is not so high that it’s just extremely low volume, so you don’t need a dedicated amplifier to drive these headphones.

 Logitech G432

You will get some accessories with the headphones in the box are a little Y splitter, so this is for the headphones to go into and then you can have a dedicated microphone and headphone input. Then, you have this little thing which is called a DAC, 7.1 surround sound DAC – digital audio converter. If the headphones will plug into the back of the DAC and then you’ll plug into your PC or your console via USB and that’s what gives you the 7.1 surround sound.

We’ve got 50 millimeter drivers, so those drivers are the speakers on the left and right side which is nice and big. We’ve got sensitivity 107 decibels, so most headphones are between 100 and 110, so these ones are 107 which is quite well. The microphone is a boom microphone, it’s a pick up. The pickup cutley is cardioid which is unidirectional so that would mean that when the mic in front of your mouth it’s hopefully going to pick up only the sounds coming from your mouth and nothing else behind or coming from other directions. It’s a six millimeter microphone in the frequency response is 100 Hertz to 20 kilohertz.

The volume control is actually on the spinners around on the back in left ear cup, so there’s a little dial to sort of scroll up and down to the volume control. There’s not an inline control on the actual headphone. There’s no button to sort of turn the volume up and down that you would normally usually find, so it’s all just done through the left ear cup with this little dial. The cable is about two meters long and the weight of these headphones are about 280 grams.

Comfort

Corsair HS60 Pro Surround

These ear cups are quite cushiony and very soft so even when I was wearing glasses with this thing, it was actually comfortable for hours on end. I played a two hour gaming session with glasses on and I still didn’t have any fatigue around my ears or where the glasses would pass through the ear cups, so for that this thing gets a resounding success. There is virtually no padding inside the ear cups where the drivers situated. So, if you’re somebody that has huge ears that stick way out from your head and be aware that there’s no padding at the bottom of the cups. Fortunately, for me the cups were deep enough to accommodate my ears.

The top of the headband is cushioned enough and the sort of gripping force of these headphones is strong enough to keep them firmly planted on my head. The top of my head actually did have some fatigue after a long gaming session though that was quickly solved by just readjusting ever so slightly the headband. Overall, comfort was really solid.

 Logitech G432

The leatherette ear pads swivel ear cups, so if you’re wearing them and you take them off, you can actually keep them as resting flat on your chest or you can lay them flat on your desk. The fact that these are adjustable. So, if you’ve got a different sized head, you can just go ahead and swivel these abilities or extend the ear cups as you need. In terms of comfort , they are snug and they are comfortable for a couple of hours. I feel like they can get a little bit tight and I feel like the side of my head is a bit sore where they’re actually pushing.

There is some cushion but they are very tight and you do get some noise isolation but I feel like the comfort is not really there. You should compromise in comfort versus sound and feature. It means, they’re getting awesome sound and awesome technology but you’re not necessarily getting the most comfortable headphones.

Microphone

Corsair HS60 Pro Surround

The microphone itself is fully detachable, so you can remove the microphone. If you have a different audio input source, you’re probably gonna want to use it. The microphone which is by the way noise cancelling. The quality coming out of this microphone is pretty bad, so if you’re planning on using this headset to stream then I would highly recommend picking up even a very basic USB microphone to replace the built-in microphone with this headset.

 Logitech G432

These headphones has retractable microphone. To activate the microphone, you actually just swivel it down and that turns the microphone on and then you swivel back up to turn the microphone off.

I don’t really feel like the microphone is as good as the one that comes on the G Pro. I mean, it doesn’t really have much depth in the audio. The audio from the microphone is quite poor, it does work I mean you can tweak it and it will work perfectly fine for just if you want to talk to your friends but I don’t feel like the microphone is that much good. I think the microphone isn’t that good in comparison to the audio from the speaker’s. I think the speakers are definitely the strength but the microphone in my opinion is a little bit weak, there’s not much body to the sound of voice.

You can do settings in Logitech software, so you can just sort of see how that works with the software. When you click on the headphones, you can see the settings of the volume microphone and side tone levels are all at their default levels and noise removal. It also show you the microphone level, it doesn’t really show you the percentage. So, it looks like it does automatically adjust based on your voice and how you’re speaking.

Sound Performance

Corsair HS60 Pro Surround

I quite enjoyed these 7.1 surround because I feel like it gave a much deeper sound-stage than we would see normally. In fact, when I was sort of flipping back and forth especially with over watched between having it on and off, I did feel like I had a larger sound-stage with the 7.1 simulated surround sound. It really helped me locating people around me so much as it just made that sound-stage feel a little bit bigger.

So, I actually did enjoy the 7.1 simulated surround but it is not true 7.1 surround, it is purely software in simulated through this dongle and through the IQ software. The nice bit is in the IQ software it is one click away from turning on just a regular stereo sound. So, it’s very easy to disable if you don’t like that feature and it’s one of those things that I fully appreciate that they included the extra feature and it’s very easy to turn on and off.

The equalizer makes these headphones a little bit more valuable on the PC as well because you can just go in there and you can tune the sound to whatever that you like. If you’re somebody that actually hates the IQ software, you can plug the cable directly into the PC but if you want use of the microphone and the speakers at the same time, you will need to provide your own adapter to split this out into separate plugs for a desktop PC.

 Logitech G432

They are 7.1 surround sound headphone that’s obviously the main selling point of these and the only way you can actually make them a 7.1 surround sound headphone is if you use the DAC. If you’re not using the DAC and you’re not plugging them into your console or your PC with the USB connection you’re just going to get standard stereo surround, so just something to take into consideration.

For gaming, these are great because you can hear your opposition or your enemies as they’re running around that 7.1 surround sound being the main selling feature I feel like these headphones do give you. I think a competitive advantage especially in first-person shooters like apex legends or csgo, it does give you a level of immersion as well when you’re in the game. So, that’s just something that you need to figure out whether or not.

Conclusion

Corsair HS60 Pro Surround

The comfort is very nice in this headset and you can wear these headsets for long hours. These sounds better and I actually feel like especially with the 7.1 simulated surround enabled, I feel like it has every bit the size of the sound-stage going on. Even though these are closed back headphones and I feel like the quality is just just spot-on and part of that may be because with closed back headphones like these I don’t have to listen to my PC. So, if you have a PC that’s very loud, these may be a really great solution at just $69.99.

I feel like they undercut some of the competition by a little bit with that price point giving you a big return on your investment with one exception and that would be the microphone itself which is just bad. If you’re planning on streaming using these headphones then I highly recommend investing in just a different audio input source.

 Logitech G432

I feel like there aren’t many headphones for this price point with this much technology in them. The microphone is a bit of a disappointment. For this price range, this maybe a good one for those who have a tight budget for their gaming headset.
