Detail Review:
INTRODUCTION:
JBL Charge 4
The JBL Charge 4 is retailing for around a hundred and twenty dollars currently and it comes in 10 different colors. The Charge 4 is the updated version Bluetooth speaker of the Charge line-up. Compared to its previous version, there are only a few changes in its looks and in its sound quality.
Ultimate Ears Boom 3
The Ultimate Ears are one of the popular brands in the market that manufactures Bluetooth speakers. The Ultimate Ears Boom 3 is one of those speakers from the Ultimate Ears, that became popular from the day of its launch itself. This speaker is retailing for around a hundred and twenty-eight dollars currently.
DESIGN:
JBL Charge 4
The Charge 4 is a little bit bigger, a little bit taller than the Charge 3 but aesthetically they pretty much look the same and weight wise also about the same almost the Charge 4 might be a little bit heavier than the Charge 3. On the front, you got the JBL Brandon and below it, there are LEDs that indicate the charging status. You got the same cloth mesh design that you’re gonna find on all your JBL speakers, then you have your connect button, volume up and down button, play-pause button, power button, and Bluetooth button.
On the side it has nice radiators that vibrate, that’s one of the best features of these. On the back, you get a little flap when you open it there will be your USB Type-C charging slot, let me see do I got a USB to see here we go let’s plug this in USB type-c charging, then you got a 3.5 out, and you got your USB-A out, so this way you can charge your phone, charge your tablet, charge your camera, do whatever you want.
Ultimate Ears Boom 3
This speaker is available in different colors so you have more options to choose from. This speaker is made of two-toned fabric that gives it great look and also gives us a nice grip. On the back of the speaker, there is a straight rubber strap where there is the UE logo and at the bottom of the strap there is a flap, so you flip it open there will be your micro USB charging slot and above it, there is a LED indicator to show you the charging status.
As far as button controls, on the front of the speaker, there is a huge plus and minus button that is used for volume up and down. There are also some buttons on the top of the speaker those are the power button to turn on or off the speaker, the Bluetooth button to pair these up, and in the middle of these two buttons, there is a button they call the magic button. The magic button is used to play-pause, and skip the track but not skip reverse the track. The main reason for which this is called the magic button is because of the function it allows to change the playlist that you have added in the app.
FEATURES:
JBL Charge 4
The box of the JBL Charge 4 claims that you got JBL to connect plus that means you could connect up to 100 speakers together, 20 hours worth of battery life, and it’s IPX7 waterproof that means you could submerge it in water for 3 feet up to 30 minutes. The box comes with a beautiful presentation, and inside the box, you get your speaker, this one doesn’t come with the wall charger but you get a charging cable USB Type-C it’s some nice little upgrade right there, a quick start guide, warranty card, and important safety instructions, that’s pretty much it.
The build quality is excellent, it has a nice rugged design, these are definitely durable with a quality build, they’re waterproof up to three feet for 30 minutes, and you get 20-hour battery life. If you’re rocking these on the max volume you’re looking at about 14 hours but that still looks good enough time to get you through a whole party. You could pair up to 100 speakers of these together, and they’re nice and loud crystal clear. One of the best things about JBL speakers is the bass, you got those radiators on the side you could see that vibrations these speakers definitely have a lot of basses.
Ultimate Ears Boom 3
The Ultimate Ears Boom 3 has 360 degrees true and balanced sound and for that, they have got a cylindrical design. The magic button of this UE speaker is the function that makes this speaker stand out from the other branded speakers in the market. This button allows you to change the playlist you have added to the app and also allows you to take the call and have the conversation. There is another feature in this speaker called party up. This feature allows you to pair two of these speakers together and have a stereo sound effect.
UE claims that you could also pair up to a hundred and fifty speakers of this line-up together. It has 15 hours of battery life, it has also got two-toned durable fabric, and these are also drop-proof and rated waterproof IP67 which means it will be fine if you drop this in water for 30 minutes. The box comes in nice packaging and inside the box, you get your speaker themselves, your micro USB charging cable, the charging brick, and usual books.
SOUND QUALITY:
JBL Charge 4
I tested out the sound quality on this speaker and it sounds like a classic JBL speaker, nice and loud, and booming bass with the radiators getting vibrated. If this thing sounds this good, how two of these paired up together sound and the answer for this is two JBL Charge 4 paired together sound incredible. It is perfect to travel with and set them up in your hotel room to have your little party environment. Definitely, the Charge 4 sounds better than the Ultimate Ears Boom. Compared to Charge 3, Charge 4 is a little bit louder and has a little bit more bass and you could feel the bass. With Charge 4, you will definitely feel a little bit more bass vibration on the radiators than on the Charge 3.
Ultimate Ears Boom 3
Both of these speakers the JBL Charge 4 and the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 are about the same when it comes to loudness. The Boom 3 might seem to be a little bit louder but if it is, it’s not that much. So, when it comes to loudness these speakers are about the same. But these two speakers have completely different sound signatures. That is possibly explained by the fact that the Boom 3 is a 360 speaker while the Charge 4 is a mono speaker directional so, it has a completely different sound signature. I feel like the Charge 4 does a better job, it has a wider range as far as the dynamic range between the highs and lows because this goes way deeper as far as only the frequency curve while the Boom 3 does not go as deep.
WHICH TO BUY?
In my opinion, you should buy the JBL Charge 4 because it is better for the price than the Ultimate Ears Boom 3. Charge 4 has better sound quality than the Boom 3 and it has better battery life than the Boom 3 for the price lower than the price of Boom 3. If you need a Bluetooth speaker to experience great music then the JBL Charge 4 is good for you to buy and if you want a speaker for movies and house parties then the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 is good for you to buy.
