Detail Review:
INTRODUCTION:
JBL Clip 2
The Clip 2 from JBL is a very small and compact Bluetooth speaker. I wanted something a little bit more portable, so I checked out about this speaker. It’s not that I’m disappointed with it, it’s just not as good as I thought it would be but it’s ok. This speaker is retailing for around fifty dollars currently on Amazon.
JBL Clip 4
The JBL Clip 4 is another portable compact Bluetooth speaker from JBL. As far as the price on these, they’re coming in at around seventy dollars. Not only the changes are made in the designs but there is also a change in their features compared to its predeccessor.
DESIGN:
JBL Clip 2
It’s a really nice-looking speaker, it’s fairly small, then it has a little Clip there on the top of the speaker, so you can hang it wherever you want on your backpack, or on your pant belt loop like that. the side of the speaker is covered by rubber and also, the bottom has some rubber so that the speaker can stay on your table. the front of the speaker is covered by some type of hard mesh material, it looks like fabric actually, and also, on the fabric, you have the JBL logo there.
On the side of the speaker, you have the volume up button, you have the call button for answering phone calls and then you have the volume down button. On the back, you can see the details, the 3.5-millimeter audio jack cable right there if you want to connect it via the cable or you don’t have Bluetooth available you with the charge you would connect it with this cable. On the other side of the speaker, you have the Bluetooth pairing button that is for when you’re pairing this with your phone it should appear automatically but in the case, of your particular phone it doesn’t show up on your device list and your Bluetooth settings, you would press this button so it will show up. Then you have the power on the button there on the side of the speaker and also, you have the charging port under a gasket to keep your speaker waterproof.
JBL Clip 4
Taking a look at the speaker, you can see it’s got kind of a rounded shape, it definitely feels durable, feels rugged, so it’s going to hold up well over time. You got some JBL branding right in the center with a nice rubber feel to it and you’ve got your play and pause button as well as your volume up and down buttons on the front of the speaker. The speaker has a built-in carabiner Clip hence the name Clip 4, which you can use to attach the speaker to a bag or a belt loop or anything like that so you can keep track of it while you’re on the go.
The Clip itself feels extremely durable, feels like a brushed metal type finish, so this also is going to hold up very well over time. On the right side of the speaker, you’ve got some additional branding and again the overall, build quality feels really good. On the back of the speaker you’ve got some rubber tread to help keep the speaker in place whenever you place it on a surface, and over on the left side of the speaker, you have your power button as well as your Bluetooth pairing button.
FEATURES:
JBL Clip 2
This is basically for people who want to have us JBL like a portable Bluetooth speaker that doesn’t occupy too much space, it’s compact, it’s waterproof you can use this in the shower, you can use this while playing near the pool you won’t have any trouble if it falls in the water because it is IPX7 rated. It’s not the best speaker in the world but I like the design of it, it’s pretty nice. You have either a Bluetooth connection or a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack connector, so you have both options and also, you can pair this wirelessly with another JBL Clip 2 speaker if you want to have like more like a stereo sound, a little bit more power, you can do that.
It charges in about two and a half hours and they promised eight hours of battery, then you have hands-free calling so you can use this to do hands-free calling on your mobile phone also connected via Bluetooth. The output power here has three watts frequency response is 120 Hertz to 20 kilohertz. In the box, you have the Clip 2 speaker itself, one micro USB cable for charging, you have the Quick Start Guide safety sheet and warranty card.
In terms of waterproofing, if this falls in the pool I believe it’ll stay afloat for a while then a little sink, it’ll go to the bottom of the pool. You don’t want to keep it in deep water too long it is waterproof to a certain extent that is around 3 feet for up to 30 minutes only, so you’re gonna have to be careful. Don’t use this for like diving in the pool there it makes no sense, you don’t listen to music underwater anyway, so it’s just waterproof in case if it falls into the pool or something by mistake.
JBL Clip 4
Inside the box, in addition to the speaker itself, you’re also getting a USB Type-C charging cable as well as your usual paperwork and instructions. The speaker is running Bluetooth 5.1, so you’re getting some up-to-date Bluetooth technology. So far in my testing, I haven’t had any issues with dropouts or anything like that. As far as battery life, you’re looking at roughly 10 hours on a single charge, which is impressive for a speaker of this size. So, no matter what the occasion is you should have plenty of juice to get you through. The speaker also has IP67 dust and water-resistant rating, so you don’t have to worry about it getting wet if you want to take it to the pool or to the beach, so there are really no restrictions as far as where you can take it it it the speaker. Overall, this is a great little speaker to have whenever you’re on the go, it’s got great battery life, it’s very portable, and the built-in Clip is an added bonus.
There is a couple of things I don’t like about it. Number one like they’ve been doing with most of their new speakers, this one also does not support phone calls. I don’t know why but it does not have a microphone, so to take calls you have to go back to your phone. Number two unsurprisingly there is no audio jack like we had on Clip 2 and Clip 3. The only way to use the Clip 4 is by using Bluetooth. Number three no stereo pairing support, I have no idea why this is while all other speakers in this size even at lower prices support some sort of speaker pairing JBL small speakers especially, the Clip and the Go line of speakers don’t support any sort of pairing I don’t understand it for the price they ask for.
SOUND QUALITY:
JBL Clip 2
In terms of sound, it doesn’t have the highest volume, it doesn’t have the best bass, that’s just the reality of the situation. It’s compact, it’s a pretty nice speaker, I wouldn’t say it’s not the perfect sounding speaker at least it lacks a little bit of bass it’s kind of tiny in terms of sound but it is a pretty good solution for the price, you can get these for a pretty cheap price.
JBL Clip 4
When it comes to the sound quality, it’s surprisingly good for something of this size. It’s got a very rich a very warm but clear sound to it. For the size, it gives you plenty of basses, and it’s pretty impressive because there’s no distortion and it doesn’t sound like the speaker struggles to keep up at max volumes. You’re also getting some great-sounding trebles so vocals come in nice and clean.
WHICH TO BUY?
In my opinion, you can buy the JBL Clip 2 if you want a speaker for under 50 dollars and if you want aux out. If you want better sound quality, better battery life, and USB-C for charging, if you are ready to give up aux out, and if you can afford 70 dollars, then you can buy the JBl Clip 4.
