Detail Review:
INTRODUCTION:
JBL Flip 5
The Flip 5 from the JBL is an updated version of the Bluetooth speaker from Flip series speakers. The JBL Flip 5 is retailing for around seventy dollars currently. It comes in 11 different colors you got black, blue, teal, white, yellow, grey, green, pink, red, sand, and camouflage. These are also IPX7 dust and water-resistant.
Ultimate Ears Boom 3
The Boom 3 Bluetooth speaker from the Ultimate Ears is one of those speakers in the market which became popular among the people on the day of its launch itself and it’s still popular in the market. This speaker is retailing for around a hundred and twenty-six dollars. You are getting the Boom app with these to enjoy more features.
DESIGN:
JBL Flip 5
JBL Flip 5 has basically the same weight as the Flip 4, you got your USB Type-C charging slot, your Bluetooth pairing button, your power button, JBL Flip 5 comes with a little string that actually can carry this around, and you have your radiators there on the side. On the front, you get your party boost button, volume up and volume down button, and your play button.
There is also JBL Brandon on the speaker, it has the same fabric pattern on this one which was on Flip 4 which is really really nice. Basically, Flip 5 and Flip 4 have the same length, maybe the JBL Flip 5 is a little bit wider but feels about the same weight. One of the biggest differences among them is, if you notice on Flip 4 you got the little flap where you got micro USB charging and an Auxilary input but on Flip 5 you have USB Type-C charging, no flap, and no auxiliary input.
Ultimate Ears Boom 3
The Ultimate Ears Boom 3 portable waterproof Bluetooth speaker has got a really nice fabric on the outside. I can hold it in my hand very easily and it comes with a carabiner loop and clip. There are plus and minus buttons on the front for volume up and volume down and then the other controls are on the top. There’s the power button, the pairing button, and in the middle, it’s a magic button as they call it, where hitting it once is to play-pause, double-tapping it takes you to the next track, and you can set up a special shortcut for holding down on that button in the middle in the app itself.
You can switch between the playlist you have added in the app by holding the magic button for the Apple music, it can work with Spotify, and some other ones as well. So you can choose a playlist that is automatically played, upon hitting the magic button. There is an inductive charging spot at the bottom of this speaker there, so you can buy the charging dock on which you can set this down and charge it up. It does have a micro USB port on the back, so by default, you can just plug in the micro USB port and charge it there.
FEATURES:
JBL Flip 5
Some of the features on the JBL Flip 5 are it’s Bluetooth version 4.2, it’s IPX7 dust and water-resistant so you could submerge this but unfortunately, it doesn’t float so if you take this to the beach better know how to swim, you’re getting 12 hours worth of battery at 50% volume and 10 hours worth of battery at max volume, it takes two and a half hours to fully charge the speaker, and it features party boost so that allows you to pair two compatible speakers together for stereo sound and you can also link up to a thousand speakers together.
You’ve got the new 3D design on the passive radiators which JBL claims is gonna make this one sound better than the JBL Flip 4 and it also charges via USB Type-C so JBL. The box comes in a nice presentation and inside the box, you got your usual books and a quick start guide, your speaker themselves, and your USB Type-C charging cable.
The first thing you want to do is pair up the speaker and that’s really simple. Once you power up the speaker it’ll automatically be in Bluetooth pairing mode, go to your phone’s Bluetooth menu, and select the Flip 5. The next thing you want to do is download the JBL connect app. In order to connect the music party boost, it’s real simple. You’re gonna power up the first speaker, let it connect to your phone, and then power up the second speaker, you can hit the party boost button on the first one then hit the party boost button on the second one, and when you see that steady LED that means they’re paired together.
Once you open the app, connect to your speaker, and this is going to give you full access to all the features. In the app settings, you can turn your audio feedback sounds on and off, you can take a tour to learn how to use the speaker, and there’s your firmware version. You also have your battery indicator, and if you have another speaker, you can activate party mode or stereo mode and you can select between left and right channels.
I checked out the button controls on this with play-pause no problems, with volume up and volume down no problem, and with DoubleTap on the play button to skip to the next track also no problem, so all the buttons work alright. I checked out the Bluetooth range also in these speakers by going away from the speaker to 50 feet to see if there any drop connections. I went all the way back to 50 feet and there was no drop connection. Also, I checked out the lag latency and what I mean by that is when you’re watching a video is there any delay from the person’s lips to what you hear and basically, there was no lag on this. Also, I did the water test by playing some music on this, and then I fully submerged it in a large bowl of water. It doesn’t float but it works well.
There are some matters which disappointed me first no Bluetooth 5.0 it’s still using Bluetooth 4.2 it’s 2020 so any headphones, earbuds, or speakers that come out should be run at minimum Bluetooth 5.0. The next thing is there is no 3.5 auxiliary input, that’s not the biggest deal in the world, next to no mic for hands-free calling so you can’t use this speaker as a speakerphone, and lastly, this speaker doesn’t float, even though it’s IPX7 water-resistant and that’s a big deal for me. Other than that the JBL Flip 5 looks great, comes in a bunch of different colors, you’ve got that excellent rugged build quality, its IPX7 dust, and water-resistant, you’re getting 10 hours worth of battery at max volume and 12 hours at 50%.
Ultimate Ears Boom 3
The Bluetooth connectivity range in this is very long distance, the battery is ridiculous, the sound is incredible, and it’s waterproof and it floats so you can take it to the pool or to the beach or whatever if you’d like. One of the things that I like about it is when it’s not powered on, if I were to launch the UE Boom app on my phone, and hit the power button within the app, it will send a turn-on signal to this speaker, and then it will turn it on even though it’s not on or paired with my device which is really great.
The battery life, the true shock resistance, and waterproof quality at the nature of this product make me feel incredibly comfortable as a device worth purchasing for its price. If you get this more than one or you have one and your friends have one when you come together, you can pair them all up together then you can have great loud music in a party space.
SOUND QUALITY:
JBL Flip 5
I tested out the sound quality on this with the maximum volume. In my opinion, both the Flip 4 and the Flip 5 pretty much sound the same. After testing these out with a bunch of different real songs, I felt like the JBL Flip 5 definitely has more bass. It sounds amazing and I love the way the radiators look when they are vibrating and when you pair two of these together they sound incredible. These will make the perfect desktop computer speakers, perfect speakers to take to the beach for your barbecues, and for your house party in your card games.
Ultimate Ears Boom 3
I tested out the sound quality on the Boom 3 with the maximum volume and I tested this with a bunch of music from different genres. By my test, I feel like the Boom 3 definitely sounds better than the Boom 2. This is really very loud when I tested only one of these speakers. Then when I tested two of these paired together, it was really too much loud that you can enjoy them at outdoor parties even when it is really noisy there already. But you may feel these to be overwhelming on maximum volume when two of these are paired together still at less than maximum volume these really sounds great.
WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?
In my opinion, the JBL Flip 5 and the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 both these speakers are worth buying for their price range. If there is not a wide range of difference in their price range then we can come to a conclusion which one is better among these two. But there is a wide range of difference in their price range and both of these worth each and every dollar because both of these perform well for their price.
