Expert Reviews of HyperX Cloud 2:

For me, it’s between the Kingston HyperX Cloud II and Polk Striker P1 Multiplatform. The HyperX Cloud II looks and feels better in my opinion, but you have to use USB audio instead of your sound card if you want the inline control box. When spending this much on a headset we’d rather not have to choose between having less features or lower quality audio.

By IGN
The HyperX Cloud II is attractive for many reasons, including its modular and comfortable design, premium build quality, great 7.1 surround and stereo sound, and affordable price. It’s also great for laptop gamers since it obviates the need for a dedicated sound card, and overall is one of the best headsets I’ve ever used.

When all is said and done, the HyperX Cloud II headset offers the full package. As mentioned, they only thing that tops their quality looks is the quality of the performance which comes at a very fair price when considering other options currently on the market. The Cloud II is a well worthy headset and its versatility only helps to make sure you get the most from them possible.

Then it struck me. That comic book I bought so long ago, it was so cheap and yet I got so much enjoyment out of it. I don’t want to use the word cheap because that has some negative connotations to it, but the value it provided for the price was genuinely amazing. The Cloud II’s are the same and at this moment in time, they are without a doubt my favorite headphones for gaming and general PC usage.

Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Logitech G Pro

This is the pro line and the gaming headset of Logitech. This retails for approximately $100, for that price if you’re getting a professional driver and professional microphone I think that’s a really good deal.

HyperX Cloud 2

This the 7.1 surround sound headphone of the HyperX. The design and build quality of this headphones is good. The sound is also good and it’s not much premium headset.

logitech g pro 1

DESIGN:

Logitech G Pro

They feel really premium, you’ve got like this soft touch plastic on the outside. You’ve got like this silver logo for the Logitech gaming logo. The cable isn’t a fixed cable so you can put the cable in or out just depending on how you feel. Overall, they’re really nice The actual headset piece is the back leatherette finish as well and it’s got a bit of padding on top of the headset.

They look a little bit large but personally I really like it. I think they’re not too big and also not too small. If you try these on as well, they actually also do it extender some dimension that they have stainless steel, so they do extend and you can actually set it in little intervals.

HyperX Cloud 2

I always like the HyperX design and build quality from the gunmetal gray frame and matching stitch work to the embossed logo across the top, they are fantastic looking and feeling.

For the ear cups HyperX went with a matte black housing and a satin brushed aluminum backing on the driver’s. The finish also extends to the headsets frame. I think out of all HyperX color schemes the gunmetal grey and black would have to be my favorite though if you prefer the classic red and black look that’s also available.

COMFORT:

Logitech G Pro

It’s actually quite lightweight. It’s only about 250 grams. The leatherette cups is nice and thick but they’re not massive. The ear cups swivel as well which is nice, so if you just want to have one on or one off or you want to take it off for a second.

We’ve also got the ear cups the micro suede ear cup. So, I’ll definitely be probably using the micro suede, I feel like that’s just a nice.

HyperX Cloud 2

The headband is made of memory foam and artificial leather. I felt it was comfortable across the crown of my head and spread the overall weight of the headset evenly. One criticism I could levy was that for me, the pair was somewhat small and there was some slight noticeable pressure near the base of my ears even when fully extended. But, maybe it will be perfect fit for you.

Leather earpads are the standard on the cloud 2. Though an extremely soft set of velour ear cushions are included as well. I thought they’ve both felt great, the leather was cooling on the ears and the velour was very breathable. After about four hours of use I never had any nasty ear sweat with either material. I did want to note changing them out was quite difficult and could be a pain if he switched them often.

HyperX Cloud 2

FEATURES:

Logitech G Pro

It isn’t just the PC headset, you can use it on Xbox and PlayStation as well as it just has a standard line in not a USB connection. So, you can just go into the headphone or microphone jack on your PC or console.

The cups are leatherette ear cups but there is also a micro suede cover that you can put onto them, so you can have the choice of the leatherette finish or the micro suede finish depending on how you’re feeling but they also provide some noise isolation. So, you get up to 16 decibels of noise canceling or noise isolation through the headphones.

It’s got a braided Logitech cable. This is for your line in two separate the microphone and headset. It’s also got a little volume dial for turning the volume up and down rather than using your keyboard that’s a nice feature.

There’s no software, it’s just going to be straight plug and play and if you’re using a PC or console, you’d be able to configure all of the recording and volume settings through your PC or console.

HyperX Cloud 2

The analog audio cord is not removable. So, if you do experience any scratchiness or left right channel issues later on you won’t be able to switch it out. I never had any problems with the connection and it is very snug in the headset but it’s something to be aware of.

One of the biggest selling points of the cloud 2 is its USB audio controller. It has a built-in sound card with DSP or digital signal processing which allows for the virtual surround sound. I found USB connectors to always be more practical than two 3.5 millimeter jacks. I also like being able to control both the volume of my microphone as well as the game audio without having to go into my system settings.

In the box, there’s an airplane adapter as well as a cushion mesh carrying bag though it’s not the most premium looking material, it is very springy and gives a surprising amount of protection to your headset. When I carried these around last weekend I never had to worry about dings or scratches.

MICROPHONE:

Logitech G Pro

The microphone is detachable and it’s meant to be a professional-grade microphone. So, if you don’t already have a microphone maybe this will be perfect for for you. So, it’s got a cardioid pickup pattern and also it’s got a pop filter on there as well. So, hopefully you won’t get too much background noise.

This headset has the small little microphone that plugs into the side of the headset. So, if you put that oh head, it’s on the left hand side and that just bends around and that can just be wherever you want to put it, so that’s pretty cool. I like that and if you don’t want it you just pull it out.

I actually have been already playing around with the microphone a little bit. In the Windows sound settings on the recording side we can see we’ve got the g pro microphone. I’ve got my microphone set to about 80 and the microphone boost to about plus 20. Personally for me that is what gives the best sound in the room. It’s going to be great for gaming, Skype or go to meetings anything that you will be communicating with anybody, it’s going to be an awesome microphone. Logitech claims this as the pro grade condenser microphone. So, I really think that with the pop filter that they talked about and this microphone in this headset it really is a great value for money.

HyperX Cloud 2

The noise cancelling mic is detachable, so you can also use as a regular headphones. It does sound a little bit nasally that’s always inherent with these microphones but this does not sound bad at all. This is very a good microphone for a gaming headset.

logitech g pro 2

SOUND:

Logitech G Pro

The drivers are made of I think it’s called neodymium magnets. They’re meant to be just really top grade drivers up to 110 decibels with virtual surround sound.

They actually have a seal right around the ear cup. They’re blocking out just the background noise, it’s really like tight to the head but it doesn’t feel like it’s going to hurt you at all. It just feels like there’s noise isolation without even doing anything.

HyperX Cloud 2

Passive noise isolation is decent. I felt it was slightly better with the leather ear-pads. Though if you prefer the velour feeling your experience won’t noticeably decrease. Sound leak is minimal at 50% volume and at 75% which is quite loud, a small amount of noise can be heard.

The audio drivers are huge at 53 millimeters making them the largest drivers in HyperX’s headset line and larger than most competitors. I was burdened with playing a lot of video games. I played a mix of new and old Call of Duty World War 2, overwatch, rocket League, cuphead and several others just to get a feel for their sound profile.

When I pressed the 7.1 button on the controller, the soundscape significantly widened. I can feel the sounds of bullets and the sound between the shooter and the gun in the call of duty. In rocket League, I could hear engines closing in behind me and car demolitions across the arena improving my awareness and game play. Even an overwatch which has a very animated and artificial sound profile, the virtual surround sound made it intensely immersive. The announcers voice totally encapsulated me.

As far as specific audio ranges go with the Cloud 2 bass was present but was not overbearing. The sound was punchy and didn’t noticeably distort other frequencies. In games with more bassy sound signatures like battlefield 1 or Call of Duty, bass was used more as a sharp initial characteristic to sound effects rather than the thunderous rolling of bass heavy headsets.

I did notice the mids are pushed forward especially with these 7.1 engaged. In gaming headsets I’d generally like this sound signature because it creates a sense of excitement but there were times when so many different audio sources were occurring, I felt the range became slightly cluttered. The vocals did stand out more prominently in the mix, I usually have to play with subtitles on yet with declaw twos I found myself not needing them. In the treble frequencies, there was a good amount of detail. I was sure to watch out for any ear ringing or metallic sharpness which can sometimes happen with gaming headsets.

I didn’t experience this problem with the cloud 2 although at higher volumes, there was some minor edginess in the range. With the 7.1 engaged due to the simulated directional placement of audio I felt there was a slightly lower fidelity in the sound. I was able to hear where sounds were coming from but lost a small amount of clarity due to their distance. All-in-all I really enjoyed my time with the cloud 2. The virtual surround sound was a fantastic addition to their line of gaming headsets. The greatest effect I noticed was the accurate sound placement and its improvement on my game play.

CONCLUSION:

Logitech G Pro

The sound and the microphone both are really good. For this price point, this much well developed sound this will be worth the price. I hope this will be the favorite headset for all in this price range.

HyperX Cloud 2

The market is flooded with gaming headset options but with everything HyperX packed into the cloud 2 at this price point, I felt they were very much worth the price.
