INTRODUCTION:

Logitech G635

The Logitech G635 is a wired gaming headset with 7.1 surround sound. The Logitech G635 looks the same as the G935 but the price differs because some of their features like these are wired while G935 is wireless. These headsets are currently retailing for around a hundred dollars.

Hyperx Cloud 2

The HyperX Cloud 2 is an obvious update to the original HyperX Cloud. At first look, they don’t seem to be a whole lot different visually except for the inline remote. Since decent gaming headsets are an investment I really liked the detachable mic. 

DESIGN:

Logitech G635

If you look at the top of the headset you can see where the Logitech gaming symbol is labeled. If you look on the right side of the headset you can see the labeled G635, if you look on the inside of the right side of the headset you can see where it’s labeled R to let you know that that’s the right side of the headset, and you can see where the G is that lights up and on the side that little strip right there lights up as well. If you look on the inside of the right ear cup you can see a little design.

The left side of the headset is similar to the right side of the headset. If you look on the left side of the headset you have a G635 symbol, if you look on the inside of the left side of the headset you have the L letting you know that is the left side, and if you look on the outside of the left side of the headset you have a G that is very similar to the right side it lights up just like it does on the right side and if you flip it over you have that same light strip as well. On the left side, you have all the fancy buttons.

The switch on the side lets you choose your audio source rather if you want to listen from a USB micro cable or your 3.5-millimeter audio cable. Next, we have the G buttons that can be assigned special functions such as increase or decrease in the bass, increasing our decrease in the treble, it can even assign one of the G buttons would be a left mouse clicker. To be able to customize and utilize the J buttons, you will need to download the Logitech G hub software. Next, we have this mute button, and we also have the volume control right next to the mute button but never ever use the volume control as a G button. Just like the right side, the inside of the left ear cup has a design in it as well. At the bottom of the left side of the headset, you can see where you can plug in your auxiliary cord and your USB micro cord. please note that if you are not using the auxiliary cord, you will have a boring headset without any RGB benefits.

The HyperX Cloud and HyperX Cloud 2 look the same mostly. On the outside, they both share the same excellent aluminum frame, very comfy memory foam ear cups, leatherette pads, leather headband, and in-line audio controls. Then on the inside, you’ll find they both have 53-millimeter drivers, same frequency response, same 3.5-millimeter connection, and both are compatible with the PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile devices. Essentially you’ve got the same identical set of cans, which is actually great because we love the original HyperX Cloud, it’s still a great gaming headset. As they say, don’t mess with the good thing unless you’re going to make it better that is.

One of the things that are actually better in addition to the surround sound is the mics. The mics are both detachable and both are team speak and discord certified, so you’ll be heard loud and clear. But the new mics have echo cancellation to further improve the mic quality. We did some in-game chats while mashing on the keyboard and although they weren’t 100 noise canceling, it did mute out enough of the environment noise, so the sound was clear and distinct.

COMFORT:

Logitech G635

The Logitech G635 has the soft padding of the gaming headset so this is gonna be something I want to have on my head while I’m gaming. Those who have big heads as I do can extend the sides in and out to meet your comfortability standards. If you look closely after extending the headset out, you can see arrows to push up or to push down so that can change the extension to meet your comfort.

Hyperx Cloud 2

These headsets come with a 53-millimeter driver which is really great for comfort. These headphones give a perfect fit by going around your ears instead of sitting on your ears which is really nice. If you are one of those who play games and streaming for a long time then these headphones will not bother you anyway during the long secessions. It’s neither so light nor so heavy and it’s just comfortable enough in its own way like the HyperX Cloud.

The first thing we have in the box is a manual, and the headset does come with a 3.5-millimeter auxiliary cable. The headset also comes with a micro USB cable so that you can connect your headset directly to your computer or your laptop. You can use the 3.5-millimeter auxiliary cable with other devices too like the Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360 Controller, and Xbox One controller the has regular audio.

You do have the Logitech software for the G635 called G Hub. You need to download the software from the Google search bar. You have many options to do with the help of this G Hub software. You can customize the RGB lighting on the G635 in this software. You have different options in terms of RGB light settings like a cycle, breathing, fixed, etc. what these effects do is like Cycle makes the color of the lighting changes, and fixed effect keeps one color light glowing all the time. The software actually does many more things like it also allows you to customize the G button on the left ear cup which is known as the assignment setting there in the software.

Hyperx Cloud 2

If you’re an average gamer you’re probably well acquainted with the HyperX line of great headsets. The original and very popular HyperX Cloud was actually a rebranded Takstar Pro 80 with the QPad QH-90 which was a pretty decent set of cans to start with. It adds on a splashy logo, a decent mic and aggressively pushes the cans to be bass-heavy, without compromising clarity for gaming, and the HyperX Cloud was on its way to being one of the best gaming headsets around. These are the next iteration the cloud 2.

What all these about more behind the scenes with the Cloud 2 is this featuring 7.1 virtual surround sound, you may remember the original only had a simple two-channel stereo. We can admit that when we occasionally candy crushing to kill time, stereo is fine but when we’re going Stealth in CS: GO, we want to know exactly where those footsteps are coming from, so having the 7.1 virtual surrounds is definitely a bonus. But there are a few other things to consider before deciding on the upgrade.

The 7.1 virtual surround sound comes with a USB audio control box with built-in digital signal processing or a DSP sound card that amplifies your audio and voice. You just need to plug your headset into the USB dongle and the dongle connects to your PC and you’re good to go. But unfortunately, it only works for PC gamers. We should mention the cable is slightly different, in that you don’t need a Y-splitter adapter to use the cloud 2 with your pc as you did with the original. You may need a stereo adapter to use it with your Xbox One if you have one of the older controllers without the 3.5-millimeter port.

Both the HyperX Cloud and the Cloud 2 are essentially the same set of cans with the main difference being the Cloud 2 having an upgraded mic with noise canceling and the 7.1 virtual surround sound. Both are extremely comfortable and the sound performance is equally great.

SOUND:

Logitech G635

Logitech has done a great job in terms of the sound with the help of the DTS headphone X 2.0 and 7.1 virtual surround sound. The implementation of the surround sound is great in the G635. The highs, mids, lows, treble, and the bass response were great in these headsets. The instrument separation is also really and you can actually find out from where actually the sound is coming from. The gaming experience with these headphones on is really great you can easily find out from where the footsteps sounds are coming from. For this price range, these really sound great if you still want the sound quality to be better, then you can go into the Software and use the equalizer and adjust the bass, treble, etc as you want to be.

Hyperx Cloud 2

I found the overall sound quality was great which was really no surprise since, we were already fans of the original, and as we mentioned the hardware specs are the same. You’ll find both the high-end and low-end frequencies are amazing. The amplification of sound effects like footsteps, gunfire’s, explosions, and bullets whizzing by is detailed and clear. So adding in the virtual surround sound, that’s going to take things to the next level. The audio processing to mix the left and right channels was pretty flawless, and gaming with him was impressively expansive and immersive. For movies, we weren’t disappointed either. We cranked them up and the sound quality remained crisp and clean with no noticeable loss distortion or cracking.

WHICH ONE IS BETTER FOR THE PRICE?

In my opinion, the HyperX Cloud 2 is better for the price because it does have better build quality, better sound quality, and better comfort than the Logitech G635 for a price less than that of the G635. Both of these headphones almost have similar features but the price of HyperX Cloud 2 is less than the Logitech G635 so it is better for the price than the G635.

The G635 finished just behind the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 and ahead of the Cloud Revolver S. The Cloud Revolver S and the G635 both scored about the same, with the Revolver’s superior comfort averaging out the better sound and mic quality of the G635. These headsets also retail for about the same price, which is a little less than half that of the Beyerdynamic. The MMX 300 does have the best audio and mic quality of these three headsets, but we didn’t find it to be particularly easy to use or all that comfortable, which is a shame, given its premium price and superb sound quality.

Decent for gaming. The G635 is one of the better sounding gaming headsets we’ve reviewed so far. The G HUB app is also amazing and offers tons of customization options with lots of controls. You won’t get any delay thanks to their wired connection, and they are comfortable to wear for long gaming sessions. However, be sure to take them off from time to time to let your ears cool off, as they trap quite a bit of heat inside the ear cups over time. Their microphone is also a bit bright when comparing it to other gaming headphones.

Overall the G635 is a brilliant headset. It’s comfortable and sounds superb. I would, however, have preferred a slightly better microphone, as compared to various mics I use frequently it is the only part that doesn’t feel up to the standard of the rest of the headset. For $200 the Logitech G635 does perform rather well, It does lack in bass a bit and for people with a bigger melon, it isn’t all that comfortable. But for the rest of you looking for a decent RGB gaming headset, I can recommend the Logitech G635!

For me, it’s between the Kingston HyperX Cloud II and Polk Striker P1 Multiplatform. The HyperX Cloud II looks and feels better in my opinion, but you have to use USB audio instead of your sound card if you want the inline control box. When spending this much on a headset we’d rather not have to choose between having less features or lower quality audio.
