Detail Review
INTRODUCTION:
Logitech M585 Multi-Device
This mouse looks so small but it has so many things which will be very useful to people. This mouse has many features and functions and also for smaller to medium hand size people, this mouse will be very comfortable.
Logitech M720 Triathlon
This mouse has a complete set of features with it which all you will need if you’re an editor or programmer or multi-tasker. This is a cheap alternative mouse for the expensive Logitech MX Master mouse.
DESIGN & COMFORT:
Logitech M585 Multi-Device
The top half of the rodent is hard plastic, the rest of it is soft to touch. The center button is sideways and the white side buttons are pretty clutch. I found the mouse place to hold and responsive enough. My experience with this has been very pleasing.
It really felt comfortable. If you look closely, it really looks like a mouse but this form makes it kinda ergonomic and will allow you to use it for long hours.
Logitech M720 Triathlon
Logitech M720 Triathlon is a full-size really ergonomic right-handed only wireless Mouse. The weight is a little bit on the heavy side for a wireless mouse, also probably a little bit too big for small-handed people but according to my hand, the size and shape are excellent. On top, it is covered by a soft touch rubber which apparently gets dirty easily.
The mouse is made of a rubber-like material, so it’s easy to grab. It’s very comfortable. It’s ergonomic, you can use it for a long time without feeling any fatigue in your hands.
SPECIFICATIONS & PERFORMANCE:
Logitech M585 Multi-Device
This is got a couple of extra customizable buttons and doesn’t cost too much. It works on Bluetooth but also has the option of a wireless adapter to the plugin. The buttons can be configured to anything you prefer. Using the Logitech Options software, different actions you can register. There’s other stuff this mouse can do as well, custom actions for specific apps and Logitech Flow.
There are seven buttons on this mouse. How to customize the buttons is again the same as other Bluetooth mouse. You go into accessibility settings, go to touch, turn on assistive touch, and go to the devices. Though there are seven buttons, you cannot customize the scroll wheel itself and the left and right horizontal clicks. It just works as it is. You can set whatever shortcut you want, it helps greatly by customizing the buttons.
The horizontal scroll works but it’s kind of slow. Also, it will scroll the opposite way as it mimics the scrolling by fingers. If you swipe or click the mouse to the right, it will move to the left side of the screen and if you swipe left or click the mouse to the left, it will move to the right side of the screen. So, to change this to the usual horizontal scroll-like how it works in PC, you can change this in the general settings, go to trackpad and mouse, and turn on natural scrolling. Now, when you do horizontal scroll clicking right will move the screen to the right and the same when you click left.
Connecting and setting this up is as usual. For some reason the USB receiver does not work on the iPad, anyway it has Bluetooth, so you don’t need to use the USB receiver.
Logitech M720 Triathlon
The mouse can be connected either by Bluetooth connectivity or by the USB dongle that comes with it. On the side of the mouse, there are four buttons. The gesture button on the bottom, on the top we have three buttons; the forward button, the backward button, and the last button give you the ability to switch between up to three connected devices. On the top of the mouse, we have the left click button, the right-click button, the scroll wheel, and then there’s a little button behind the scroll wheel. There are two modes for the scroll wheel; one which is the slower version, so that you can scroll with a little bit of friction. In the other mode, when you click on that button the scroll wheel becomes very smooth and you can scroll from the top or the bottom of the page to the other side easily just by swiping up or down.
The mouse comes with a software called Logitech options where you can customize the buttons of the mouse. You can click on any of the buttons, choose the modes, and customize its functionality. You can customize the gesture button as well so that it performs specific tasks when you swipe the mouse up or down, left or right. You can also control the pointer speed and the smoothness and sensitivity of scrolling.
Now, you may be wondering what makes this a multi-device peripheral. First, you can plug in the Logitech unifying receiver to your PC and use this mouse instantly, and then you can pair two more PCs or laptops with Windows and Mac OS through Bluetooth. By setting up the connection once in unifying software or pair once via Bluetooth, you can work freely between through several computers just by pressing this switching button on the side. I really like you’re given this choice of wireless connectivity options because, for example, we don’t need to sacrifice USB ports on ultrabooks with very limited numbers of ports. I can see this Mouse being the ideal tool for people multitasking on a couple of different computers.
Besides the device function button, this mouse has several other customizable buttons. There are two buttons on its left right next to the device switch button. Within a browser, you can use this to back and forward. More than that, in the Logitech Options app you can change your function specific to each individual program you often use. Just below the thumb press, you will find a hidden key which in default works as a gesture button. For example, you can switch between desktops by moving the mouse left and right, open and close the Start menu by moving up and down by holding a button, or switch between programs. Just like the Logitech G502, the M720 also comes with fast scrolling and horizontal scrolling. The sensitivity of this mouse is a thousand dpi optical sensor may sound small but for people who rarely game on PC have no problems with such sensitivity for daily productivity.
On the bottom, you have the battery compartment along with the USB receiver and an on and off button. It has rubber pads at the bottom to help you control the mouse easier. The last mode is called Flow, if you are using multiple monitors, you can enable the flow function, and then you can move the pointer across the monitors easily and seamlessly.
BATTERY:
Logitech M585 Multi-Device
It uses a AA battery instead of several days, a battery level of several months it is provided. The battery life of this is just amazing which will last around 2 years.
Logitech M720 Triathlon
This is powered by a single AA battery. Logitech claims it will last for two years. This may last that time which claims by Logitech because, in the old series of the mouse, every claim just happened.
WHICH TO BUY?
There is a demographic of people who would like some more functionality out of the mouse without ripping their wallets apart, the M585 fills in that slot between the MX master and the most basic wireless mouse. I think it’s worth buying for your office or house. Also, I feel like there’s nothing to complain about the M720 except being a little bit expensive for a Logitech wireless mouse. It is comfortable and has a complete set of features and really fits your need if you’re using more than one computer at once. You should choose which one you want to buy considering your budget. If you have a small hand, then M585 is also better. Otherwise, if you prefer a large mouse, the M720 is better to buy.
