Detail Review
INTRODUCTION:
Logitech M720 Triathlon
We can say that this Logitech M720 Triathlon is the successor mouse of M705. This one has the same features that M705 had but with some improvements.
Logitech M705 Marathon
This M705 mouse will be comfortable for your hand. The design of this mouse may not looks so attractive but it’s worth the price.
DESIGN & COMFORT:
Logitech M720 Triathlon
There’s a lot of cool features about this mouse. First of all, the design is really awesome. I like the way it feels in hand. It’s a medium-sized mouse, not really a large mouse not a small mouse either. So, it’s pretty it feels very comfortable. It doesn’t really get dirty either, so it’s nice.
Logitech M705 Marathon
It’s a well-made fairly light device with dimpled rubber at the thumb rest, rubber by the pinky. Logitech’s iconic gunmetal looking plastic on top and an anodized aluminum scroll wheel and piano black plastic trim. It’s comfortable and has a more appealing design than the more expensive performance mouse MX.
It’s designed to be ergonomic but I still managed to get cramps in my wrist after while using it. I’m not sure whether the ergonomics are actually scientifically valid on this device but as long as you don’t spend more than a few hours at a time using this, you should be fine.
FEATURES & PERFORMANCE:
Logitech M720 Triathlon
There are eight buttons on this thing total and there’s one hidden button. There’s a regular right click and left click and the scroll wheel has options for left and right-click. Basically, this is regular scrolling and if you push-button underneath the scroll wheel, and you scroll it’s like free scrolling, it just keeps scrolling. This free-scrolling will be useful to scroll long documents or web pages.
Another cool feature this mouse has is the back button has different profiles. There are three profiles numbered 1, 2, and 3. So, what these profiles do is switch computers. You can connect up to three computers on this mouse. From this, you can easily copy and paste text, images and files from one devices to another devices. There’s a secret hidden button that you can push with your thumb, it’s really handy. You can do a lot of things with it. It also uses both the Bluetooth or USB dongle.
In the software, you can adjust the pointer speed, adjust the programmable keys, the scrolling speed how fast you want, scroll direction which means you want it like reversed when you scroll up to go down or down to go up that depends whatever you’re comfortable with.
It’s customizable, it works with mac and windows. The software works on both computer as well and its really awesome. Another thing is you can have profiles, if you click on basically app profiles, you can make hotkeys do stuff for specific apps. So, iof you’re using any programs like for designing and editing like that, you can change the hotkeys to do different things in the specific application.
Logitech M705 Marathon
It’s got four programmable buttons one at the bottom of the thumb rest, two back-and-forth buttons at the top and one under the scroll wheel. One interesting feature carried over from the MX is the scroll wheel. It’s got two modes and then button to swap. In the hyper scrolling mode, the wheel is free moving. Although the software doesn’t enable acceleration or inertia like the trackpad or Magic Mouse on OS 10 which makes navigating long document slower but it is useful for finer tuned control. The other mode is the more standard scroll wheel with clicks although they’re a little bit harder more audible and farther apart than most mice.
The driver which installs an icon in System Preferences allows you to program the four buttons to do just about anything. This helps shorten the distance and experience between a trackpad and mouse on OS 10. Unlike the performance MX, the Marathon does not work on glass even though it is a laser mouse rather than optical.
The hyper scroll feature could cause accidental drift and found the feature to be initially gimmicky. This is recommended for productivity but not gaming due to the DPI of 1,000.
BATTERY:
Logitech M720 Triathlon
Basically, the battery lasts for about two years which is really amazing and the battery. If you pop out the backplate of the mouse, there is just one AA battery. So, it’s a common battery.
Logitech M705 Marathon
The battery life is incredible on the Logitech marathon claiming three years of use. It has two AA batteries inside the mouse, that’s why this mouse has this much battery life compared to the MX series.
WHICH TO BUY?
Both these mouse has almost same features but the M720 has some more improvements than the M705 mouse. So, in my opinion, the M720 will be good to buy because it’s the upgraded one. Also, if you’re sick of mediocre office mouse and want a step up game, then consider M720 Triathlon.
