INTRODUCTION:

Logitech Z906

Logitech has long been in the peripheral space making everything from game controllers to keep order mice combinations and speaker sets also. There are obviously vastly more powerful and more dynamic systems available on the market but the advantage of the Z906 is that everything is already in the box. 

Logitech Z5500

The Logitech Z5500 has 5.1 which means there is one center channel speaker for surround sound speakers and one subwoofer. These include a control console and also a remote control.

DESIGN:

The control console is easy to understand with options for what input is selected, what channels are being used, what volume each channel is currently set to, a mute button, a massive volume wheel, and an effects selector for cycling between 5.1, 4.1, 2.1, and or no audio effects. The remote is also capable of managing all these options well, great features right there. On the side of the console, there are two 3.5 millimeter jacks for headphones or connecting your phone as an auxiliary input. The set 906 pauses all major digital audio providers including Dolby Digital, DTS, and also THX.

The only thing it’s missing in the box is decent speaker stands however they do have the option for wall mounting with screwed points on the back of each speaker. As a compromise, all the speakers have sticky rubber pads, that are meant to act as a fit that will do the job just fine. On the back of the sub, you can see the Z906 has plenty of input options including six-channel direct PC sound card ports, RCA stereo, 2 digital optical ports, and a coaxial port. All up there are five audio options that can all be connected at once and cycled through on the control console should be so inclined.

Logitech Z5500

Each speaker consists of a removable dust cover to expose the 2-inch cone below. These are special because there’s a silver piece in the middle which directs the sound towards you. This has a removable grill and a large soundhole. To control all this we have a quite small control pod. On the back, you can see numerous ports that support almost everything you could think of a digital coaxial, optical input, a 6 channel direct front-rear, and Center subwoofer input. Above that, we have a small opening to let the air out and on the side, we have a quick access input and output connection.

Below the infrared sensor, we have a small easy read screen and 5 setting buttons, also a giant tactile feel volume wheel. On the bottom, we have a power button that can either be blue or red. At the back of the subwoofer, we can see color-coded inputs for all of your speaker cables as well below that we have a power switch that controls the whole entire system and a fuse cover. On the side, we have a giant heatsink to keep the system cool and on the back of each speaker, we have a removable wire connection so if something breaks you can easily replace it.

Logitech Z906

I certainly love buying from big brands like Logitech who don’t skip on what you need to get your audio system up and running with ease. Included in the box is a remote control with good Duracell triple-A batteries, a control console, five bundles of 18 gauge speaker wire with the rear cables totaling a sizable 7.6 meters of each while the front and centers have a healthy 4.6 meters each in length, six-channel direct audio input cable 3.5-millimeter jacks, a user manual, and the 5.1 speaker system itself.

On paper, the Z906 subwoofer pumps out 165 watts while the satellite speakers breathe a clean 67 watts each including the center speaker. Therefore the total package should be 500 watts but on the box, it has a very clear and distinctive 1000 watt rating. According to Logitech’s website and doing a bit of a google search apparently this system is capable of putting out 1000 watts under certain conditions but I couldn’t find out exactly what those certain conditions were.

It’s a 5.1 system that has 500 watts of total power, it can be set up in a 2.1, 4.1, or stereo 3d matrix mode, it boasts Dolby digital DTS and PCM audio, sound pressure level is rated up to 110 decibels, the frequency response is amazing from 35 Hertz to 20,000 kilohertz, and while the signal to noise ratio is weighted to 95 decibels. It has quite a range of input options including RCA, optical, coaxial, six-channel direct 3.5-millimeter jacks, and analog stereo also 3.5-millimeters. It does include remote control and it comes with fantastic Duracell batteries.

The set-off time will vary depending on the size and placement of the satellite speakers in your room. For me, it took around 20 to 30 minutes to thread all the cables nice and neatly around my room. But the whole unit is effectively plug-and-play. The sub of the Z906 doesn’t have an external heat sink which has been speculating as to how the subwoofer that doubles as the amplifier is able to disperse the inevitable heat that would be generated inside. Perhaps it closes out the con on the side of the unit but it does make me wonder if it will last in the long run.

Logitech Z5500

The set Logitech 5500 speakers are incredibly awesome. We have the control console, where you can change volume, turns on and off, input effect settings level, and mute that’s basically all you can do with the console. On the back of the console, we have three different stereo spots for the audio jack basically. We need to connect this control console to the subwoofer and this subwoofer works amazing. The subwoofer on the sets Z5500 is the total weight of a whole package of the set, it’s so heavy and incredibly much power.

Every small speaker comes with a filter on and you can take this on and off whenever you want to. You can use the filter when you want to secure them. On the backside of the speaker, we have plus and minus we connect them to the subwoofer and a little hole with that let the air come out. You can also adjust these speakers stand like you can mount them to the wall basically and you can also use them as a stand to keep it on your desk which is pretty cool. All of these speakers are basically the same.

We have got a remote controller with these. When you push the test button up there every speaker would start to make some noise and the subwoofer and everything. Then we have got a power button just to power on and power off. Then we have got the volume buttons to increase and decrease the volume, and mute button down there. The buttons there in the middle changes the surround up and down, center up and down, and a subwoofer up and down. So it’s basically the same settings on the control console but you can do it Wireless basically with these remote controllers.

These speakers look like some science fiction sets but they are functional. Still, the Logitech Z906 looks much better than this. The control panel is okay too and the subwoofer I love it I just love it I love the subwoofers and it is really amazing. The subwoofer is so heavy and it delivers 188 watts while the center delivers 69 watts and all the other speakers deliver 62 watts and that results in 505 watts. 

SOUND QUALITY:

Logitech Z906

Considering the cost of these speakers is a modest three hundred US dollars some corners are going to be cut. For me most notably the satellite speakers do not have separate tweeters, so while the package boasts 110 decibels sound pressure level 35 hertz to 20,000 kilohertz and a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 95 decibels it is clear to me that some of the information must be lost without separate tweeters for the speakers. To simplify this equation, a tweeter deals with the upper ranges of the signal.

When there is a separate cone to the main speaker diaphragm you get better dynamic ranges in treble values over a speaker. The satellite speakers at best sound good and they’re okay but they don’t have the depth. As for the size of the power unit, it pumps out all the bass you will ever want and thankfully you can reduce the blast with the control console. I found the bass overwhelming using the acoustic guitars so it’s a good all-rounder.

Logitech Z5500

There is a large soundhole on each speaker to produce great sound. This speaker system includes a large 10-inch subwoofer which pounds out a hefty amount of bass. The sound out of this is very crisp and clean. Especially, because it is a 5.1 system so all the sound is separated from each other. The subwoofer can be returned down so if it was a little bit too bassy for you. If you’re buying a 10-inch subwoofer you’ve got a love bass.

WHICH TO BUY?

If you’re after a good 5.1 surround system that doesn’t break the bank and is capable of handling games, movies, music, and playing guitars then the Z906 is an absolute contender for your money. So you should buy the Z906 because it sounds better than the Z5500 for its price.

The Logitech Z-5500 is the best all-around PC speaker system we have used to date. With a street price of around $280, I found the THX-certified Logitech Z-5500 Digital Multimedia Speaker system to be more than sufficient for creating realistic gaming effects. The Z-5500 has built-in support and decoding for Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks, but you’ll have to rely on your input device, whether it’s a Blu-ray player or your PC, to decode and process more advanced audio codecs, such as Dolby TrueHD. You’ll get a much wider range of features from a standalone AV receiver, but this is by far the best-sounding and most capable of the PC speaker sets and does a great job of bridging the gap between PC and home cinema audio. It’s our Best Buy.
