This headphone is really useful for people who work in the open office environment where a lot of people are not necessarily inside of cubicles and you’ve got a lot of other things that are going on around you. These Headsets are currently retailing for around a hundred and seventy dollars.

Plantronics Voyager Focus UC

This headset has been in the market for a number of years. They’re very well known in the cell phone industry for providing Bluetooth headsets as well as sports headsets for those of you who use them with your iPhone or your Android phones. These headsets are retailing for around three hundred dollars.

DESIGN & BUILD QUALITY:

The key in this headphone is that you have a built-in microphone that can rotate all the way so you could have a microphone either on the right or left side whatever you prefer. This is supposed to go on your left side of the ear actually. Then you can just lower your headphone and as soon as you’d lower the microphone it becomes active and if I put it up the microphone becomes muted. There’s a voice feedback every time I do that but there’s an option to turn that off if you use an app inside of your phone.

The overall gray tone just makes it professional rather than a fashion statement. I really appreciate the sort of inside of the headband the wire itself is sort of a leather gray texture. In terms of buttons, there’s ANC on and off button right there, there are power and Bluetooth sync button, there is also a play and pause button in the center, and the volume up and down or the next track versus the previous track. Then there is also a tiny little button next to the microphone where you can press it to mute even if you have it as a down position.

On the side, you have your mic and your mic is works in two directions. If you have it on the right side way the headset will work on the right side of your ear and you flip at the other side it’s going to be for the left side. The boom mic has a couple of features too like there is a red button that is going to allow you to enable mute. So by pressing this button you’ll be able to enable mute. Then there is a little symbol there on the side of the earcup which is going to be your answer button as well.

On the side there you have your power button and your Bluetooth. So when you turn this on, it will turn on the headset, and then if you press and hold this forward, the LED will start blinking and it will go into pairing mode. On the bottom, you’ll notice that you have your micro USB charging port and the connections for the dock. On the other side, you have your volume controls so you increase or decrease the volume by moving it. Then you have a multi-function button both for playing pausing, and skipping music if you’re using this with a tablet or phone and at the bottom there is ANC.

COMFORT:

There is a good amount of adjustments I increase it a lot since my head is big. You also can just kind of fold it and there’s actually included case into the box so you can carry it inside the case after folding it up. The foam is really soft and I have no problem wearing this for a prolonged period of time, and there’s not much pressure into my ears. Some of the headphones that I have purchased in the past have too much force that is pushing up against my ear and it just kind of gives me that headache if I wear it for a long time. Whereas this one is light and there’s not much pressure in it and it doesn’t give me that problem, so this really has been a go-to solution for everyday headphone use.

The headset has a support band there and actually, it’s very soft and very flexible too. It’s kind of really rubbery and flexible so it’s a type of headset that is not going to cause a lot of stress when you’re wearing it for a while. It is on the ear headset so it’s not over the ear the larger ones. It’s also may even have memory foam in there because it’s very soft to the touch and it feels like it’s going to be a very comfortable headset.

The headset has a metal band that’s going on the very top to give you some nice stability and also is going to give you the flexibility to change the size of the headset. It does have a memory foam head support band and a really nice elastic that’s going to make sure that you don’t suffer a lot of head fatigue from having the headset on. The earpads are on-ear so they’re not over-ear but they do have memory foam on them and they’re very comfortable to wear.

All the noises that are going around will do two things to you one it distracts you from doing the task that you’re supposed to do and the second thing is whenever you’re on the phone conversation they’re gonna hear those sound over the phone and it can be really difficult for other people to understand what you’re trying to say. So the solution that I have found was this Zone Wireless from Logitech and as the name describes it is Wireless.

You can connect up to two different Bluetooth devices or if you were to use the included dongle you can just connect this on to your computer and it’s just gonna pair up with this. So you can have one device with this and one other device with Bluetooth if you would choose to do so. However, in my case, I have this connected to my laptop so I just listen to music from my laptop but whenever I am on a phone conversation with someone else this also connects to my headphone at the same time and it jumps to my call while just pausing the music that is coming from my laptop. So that dual connection really does answer a lot of questions. This one also has ANC built-in so if I put this on there will be active noise cancellation on.

Every time I turn on charging, it also indicates how much battery life it actually has. You can use your phone app to choose whether the voice notification is there or not, turn off the active noise cancellation or I can turn off the voice prompts as well. There’s an equalizer that I can set up and I can also set the level of my sidetone which is basically allowing some noise to be transmitted into my headphone so I can actually hear what’s going on around me. So you can also fine-tune that if you wish to. It also displays the connected devices so I have an easy way of knowing which has been connected.

Plantronics also specializes in office equipment type headsets as well as gaming headsets. Voyager Focus UC is kind of a hybrid headset I think it’s a headset that could be used for both gaming as well as office work because this headset connects through the USB dongle to your computer. It’s a stereo headset so you can hear on both sides but it also includes a microphone as well as noise cancellation technology. So that you can use this not just to listen to games or to listen to music but also to be on Skype, WebEx, calls in a GoToMeeting type calls, voice over IP type calls as well.

It also connects to your cell phones so you could use this as a standalone Bluetooth solution to connect to your cell phone and that will be independent of the USB connector. It’s giving you Bluetooth wireless connectivity more for office setting so I wouldn’t say that this is a gamer’s headset this is more the headset for someone who is an office worker who wants to be professional, professionally heard, and also not to have something that looks like it’s a gamer headset in the workplace.

It has a boom mic here and some other controls. Our docking station is USB base and this is what you’ll use not to connect your headset to your computer but this is for charging purposes. You have a micro USB for charging capability. You have your USB dongle and this is what’s going to be used to connect the headset to your computer. Keep in mind, if you do have a Bluetooth connection or capabilities on your laptop or your desktop you still need this. My understanding is that it does not support direct communication with your computer via Bluetooth it has to be through the dongle but it does support Bluetooth Direct Connect on your cell phone and tablets.

We have a little pouch very similar to what you see with some of the noise-canceling headsets like Bose but it’s a soft pouch it’s not a hard pouch. We also get some information pamphlets in multiple languages, safety certification seal and quality, and then also some regulatory and compliance stuff with serial numbers. In the box, you have all paperwork, you have your Plantronics pouch, you have your docking station, and by the way, there are models that you can get that do not include the docking station you can get the headset by itself, you have the headset, you have a micro USB charging cable, and you have the USB dongle.

Remember the dongle is necessary in order to connect your computer or laptop, it could be Mac or PC to the headset. I have tried Bluetooth connections to the computers and Mac using the headset and what I found is the audio quality isn’t really the best when you do that and you do get some I would say audio noise and stutter. So using the dongle is the best way to get the best quality. The active noise cancellation is going to drown out office noise or if you’re in Starbucks or any type of cafe and you want to be able to quiet things down. So that’s going to give you some noise control.

BATTERY:

The charging cable that came with it is just USB-A on one side and micro USB on the other end. You can just charge your headphone by connecting it on the port right there on the earcup, so you’ll see a light sort of going on and dimming off which to indicate that it is charging. There was actually something I had never really thought about and yet found it really useful. You can connect the USB cable onto the wireless charging pad so it is powered and then I can actually put this headphone on it and then that will be charging.

The docking station really doesn’t provide any connectivity to your computer to sync in any way but it’s really more for charging your headset. You could also connect it to your computer for charging. If you’re on the go remember you won’t need the dock, all you’ll need is the USB charging cable and this is going to give you the ability to charge your headsets. They do claim that you’ll get over 12 hours of talk time and audio.

MICROPHONE:

Whenever I get a phone call and I will answer it and I’ll lower my microphone and then start talking and that person can hear me all a lot better since the microphone is a lot closer to my mouth and if there’s the noise that gets canceled out and I myself also have active noise cancellation.

This headset does a good job with sound with audio coming from your computer and also on conference calls. The calls are really clear especially when you’re using Skype if you’re in GoToMeeting or let’s say for example WebEx. This was a surround sound stereo headset high end because it’s serving multiple purposes it’s giving you the ability to have good communication quality using the boom mic. This a very flexible headset for those of you who are looking for clear quality good audio and a professional like experience when it comes to any kind of communication that you have over your computer.

WHICH TO BUY?

If you are looking for a budget-friendly headset for your office purpose then you can buy the Logitech Zone Wireless but if you want a qualitative headset with great performance then you should buy the Plantronics Voyager Focus UC because it is better than the Zone wireless even though it’s the price is more.
