Detail Review:

INTRODUCTION:

Sennheiser GSP 370

The Sennheiser GSP 370 is an updated version wireless headset from Sennheiser. This is the successor of the Sennheiser GSP 670 which almost looks like the GSP 370. This headphone is retailing for around a hundred and sixty-eight dollars currently on Amazon.

Astro A50

The Astro A50 is a wireless gaming headset that is popular in the market almost from the day of its launch itself. This headset is from the A series headsets from Astro. The Astro A50 is retailing for around three hundred dollars currently on Amazon.

Sennheiser GSP 370

DESIGN:

Sennheiser GSP 370

As far as the build and design on these headphones originally, I thought these headphones were really ugly in the design, which really doesn’t concern me overall because once you put them on your head you can’t see them, so it doesn’t really matter. The mic also has a really odd design, it’s super big, it doesn’t really affect the weight too much of this headset.

These are completely made out of plastic, there’s literally no metal that I can see. But the mesh grille for the mic is made of metal and like a few screws here and there, but other than that pretty much everything on this headset is plastic which makes this headphone these headphones super light. Overall, these have a very simple design but it’s also a very different design from most headsets that are out there.

Astro A50

The first thing I noticed the moment I got this out of the box was the build quality is supreme, which you would expect for 300 dollars to be perfectly honest.  This thing is very nice and the size of the headset can be changed with the help of the bars that simply slide up and down on the headband. But they’re very tough, so they don’t just naturally move everywhere, and you do have little white markers or notches just to show you where you’re at, so if you do get a setup that’s perfect for you. The ear cups on these are replaceable and to do that you just pull them off, they’re held on with three magnets.

On the ears themselves at the top, you have the power button which you should be aware of if you don’t turn the power off on these and try to charge. It just won’t, they’ll just sit there and eventually go to sleep but still not charge up, so make sure you do hit that. Then underneath that, you have your surround selector whether you want spatial audio on the PlayStation version is in fact just Dolby audio, and then you have your EQ preset button there as well. At the bottom of the corner, you do have an infinity wheel to change and adjust the volume, and the chats again mixer is on the earcup itself, so you have a bit of a button there on either side which is very handy.

The base station itself is very good, and at the back of it you have a USB Type-A connector, you also have digital in and digital out, which is great news for me as my speaker system for my pc is actually set up through digital out, and then you’ve got your micro USB connector on that. This base station is really quite good because it does charge the headset, so you never have to worry about it. You do have a little cutout as well on one of the sides to make sure, you can’t put this in the wrong way that goes the way of the microphone.

COMFORT:

Sennheiser GSP 370

Because these are all made of like all plastic, these things literally weigh almost nothing. This is one of the lightest gaming headsets that I’ve ever owned or close to it. It’s super comfortable and you can wear these for hours on end. On the ear cups which is like the main issue, my main concern when it comes to comfort on a pair of gaming headphones. The earcups have an oval shape and these have a really open shape, so your whole ear can actually fit inside of it, the actual pads on the side rest on the side of your face, and not on top of your ears, which always causes me problems.

Any headset I’ve ever had if it touches my earlobes around the edges or anything like that, like tries to smush it down it always hurts later on down the line. That could be due to the fact that I have larger than normal ears, or the fact that I wear glasses, and it kind of pushes up against me. These on the other hand have a big open oval shape, and they’re built to actually fit your ears inside the ear cups very comfortably. On the outside of these ear cups, you got the like leatherette material, and then on the top, you’ve got this like suede or Alcantara or something like that, so at first, I thought it was going to make my ears sweat. But there are like tiny holes that I can’t see, that keep these very cool so they don’t ever give me issues with heating around my ears, even when I play for a very long time.

Astro A50

The Astro A50 is a very comfortable headset to wear for a longer time period. Even the top of this bit at first I thought was going to be quite harsh and hard on my head, it’s actually quite nice. After a five-hour session, you’re definitely taking the headset off and rubbing your face a little bit but this thing is absolutely fantastic. As I tried to flex them I realized I couldn’t because the whole thing just moves with little force needed and given that so many parts of this move around which is really good. This thing is very nice and the size of the headset can be changed with the help of the bars that simply slide up and down on the headband.

Astro A50

FEATURES:

Sennheiser GSP 370

On the outside of this headset, you only get one really big volume knob, on the left side you get a power switch that goes back and forth, and those are the only like buttons or knobs you get on this headset. I am like a person who likes a lot of buttons that have different features that you can activate but these are not so much. Even in the software, you don’t have many features. For example, there are literally only the simplest things you want to go from 2.1 to 7.1 click it’s done, you want reverb done, you want to gain, you want to change the gain in the mic done, everything is pretty simple. If you want to change the EQ settings it looks super simple, and it is super simple, which makes it easy and nice to use on a consistent basis.

In terms of compatibility, this thing is compatible with both PC, PS4, and PS5 according to the box and there is an Xbox-specific version as well. Instead of buying both, if you like all platforms PC and all the consoles, you can in fact just buy a base station for a PlayStation or for the Xbox and use the same headset. You don’t need to buy a completely new set, it’s all about the base station. You can tell the difference between whether or not it’s working on Xbox or for the PlayStation by this subtle mark there, the entire design is pretty much black, and then you’ve got silver bit or gray written as A50 on the side of the ear cup, however, you want to word it, to indicate that this is for the PlayStation 4 and 5, and for the Xbox, it’s a golden one.

You can charge these up while you use them, they don’t show any indication that they’re charging though if you’re using them, in the software itself it does not show you that they’re charging. But if you just take like two minutes to play the game while they’re plugged in and then you look back, you can see the percentage increase, over the time that you have them plugged in. So, charging while using is a go, abnormally long battery life is a go, definitely, these headphones are a pickup if you’re looking for something that has really long battery life.

These do have one micro USB considering that these have a hundred-hour battery life, I do not condemn them for having micro USB. If they had any shorter battery life, I would probably condemn them because I don’t have to put these on the charger frequently at all. Especially, considering 100 hours of battery it would be great to have USB-C for charging so that it gets charged within an hour like that.

These headphones have the longest battery life, these claim to have a battery life of 100 hours. I have not been able to test that 100 hours simply, because the first week that I owned them I did not charge them they came with 50% and it lasted me like a week and two days. I had no issues at all using these headphones and then I fully charge them and then they’re like on 70 through my second week, so these headphones have the longest battery life.

Astro A50

Inside the box, you get some accessories, actually, there are only three other aspects to this you get a micro USB cable it’s not very long but it doesn’t need to be because it just connects the base station. But at 300 dollars I’d have expected Type-C and I’d have to expect a braided cable, which this most definitely is not. We also get an optical lead to connect this base station.

You can actually change the EQ and set your own presets for this, you can adjust it yourself to make it even better. So, I’m sure with music and videos with time, you probably could get the sound right as you want. The software this headset uses is the Astro Command Center. As far as the equalizer presets there, if you do have the mod kit, there is a specific EQ for that. The standard one that comes with this is the Astro settings, you’ve then got media so for content consumption, youtube videos, and then Pro which is better for FPS gaming and things such as that, and then studio which is just a studio reference.

If we move across the stream port in the software, you can’t change the EQ for the mic, so the volume of certain aspects of it is already preset to the mic. The microphone being the lead audio than the chat audio and then in fact the game audio you do have the option for auxiliary as well. In the microphone settings again you do have various settings for the noise gate, so streaming, night, home, and tournament. Then you’ve got the USB mic level, I’d always recommend setting this down. Then we have the sidetone, which is just you being able to hear your own voice through the drivers themselves as you speak in real-time. When we go the settings there =again it’s just a default balance between game and chat. You can change this manually on the headset but you can set it as a preset to start, however, and then you’ve got your alert volume.

Sennheiser GSP 370

MICROPHONE:

Sennheiser GSP 370

This headset does come with different gain options in the software, so you can increase or decrease the gain, you can change the tone like a warm tone, a cool tone, like that. I tested out the microphone on this, and I haven’t had any issues with people being able to hear me in party chat, it seems to get through pretty easily.

Astro A50

The mic quality is pretty good, I’ve made no adjustments from this whatsoever. I’ve just recorded it straight into audacity and then aligned the audio. I may have adjusted the volume slightly other than that I didn’t anything and it sounds pretty good right out of the box. The only disappointing thing about this microphone is that you can’t change the settings but ultimately it sounds pretty good, it’s crisp, and it’s solid.

SOUND:

Sennheiser GSP 370

The sound is the most important thing about a gaming headset is the sound. So, as far as the sound quality, these headphones sound amazing. But there is a caveat, they’re not bass-heavy headphones, they do not have a lot of basses, you cannot tweak them to the point where they have a heavy bass. The signature sound of these is like super clean, super crisp audio, and I didn’t really know I needed that until I got these.

I play a lot of like First Person Shooters were hearing everything around you is like imperative and these headphones have an Esports mode that’s pretty much just a Treble boost and a mid amid boost and with these things literally, you can hear everything like they sound so great. Even when you’re listening to music with 7.1, these headphones sound amazing. The positional audio on this is really great, all you have to do is hit that 7.1 button and there’s a huge difference especially if you put it in the Esports mode. It just gives you a more clear crisp sound.

Astro A50

This headset is remarkably for gaming only, listening to music and watching video content isn’t overly great, you sometimes get a bit of electrification sound as I’d call it to the audio. However, in-game the audio is absolutely spectacular and that is in fact what this headset is it’s just purely for gaming. It is a cut above, you can tell the direction of audio and distance which is very handy for gaming and in fact race gaming as well. The audio from that is very good, you can pinpoint everything.

Astro A50

WHICH ONE IS BETTER FOR GAMING?

I  would definitely recommend the Astro A50 because the audio is just far better for gaming. There are many headsets that sound good for both music and games and are very good headsets but this in terms of gaming especially with FPS games, it’s far superior, you can pinpoint where people are, you can pinpoint how far away they are, which is absolutely great when you’re gaming. This is an absolutely fantastic headset.
