This is the review of the comparison between two headphones from two different brands popular in the market. The comparison here is between the Sennheiser GSP 370 and the HyperX Cloud Flight. There is a forty to forty-five dollars difference in their price range which may look like less but it may or may not bring any great difference in their performance. INTRODUCTION:

Sennheiser GSP 370

Sennheiser a prominent name in the audio world and they’re entered into the gaming headset. This headset was only a recent addition over the last couple of years. Sennheiser has a few different models in their gaming headset range, the GSP 370 fits roughly into the middle of the range of models such as the GSP 670 coming in at close to twice the price of these. This Headphone is retailing for around a hundred and sixty-eight dollars currently on Amazon.

HyperX Cloud Flight

The HyperX Cloud Flight is a wireless over-ear gaming headset from HyperX. As far as the HyperX Cloud Flight, this is an old headset then if these come out like 2018 or something. This headset is from the Cloud series headsets from HyperX. This mic comes with a detachable mic. This headphone is retailing for around a hundred and twenty-five dollars currently on Amazon. 

DESIGN:

Sennheiser GSP 370

The Sennheiser has gone for a simple black and silver theme with the 370s which personally I think is a good idea. A lot of gaming headsets come with a blue or red theme and not everyone likes that so I think this color scheme is a good neutral choice. As you can tell the microphones are a prominent part of the headset, a physical appearance but being is from Sennheiser, you’ll expect this microphone to be a really good quality.

There is a nice touch to the microphone is how it mutes, so when you raise it up which liberates the need to mute on your voice chat or maybe your streaming so far. Alongside that motion and the flex on the rubber section, the microphone enables you to get a nice positioning to your mouth. I love the microphone mute as that’s really handy if you need to just go off do something quickly, and come back you can just flick it with I have to touch your keyboard or your streaming controls or anything like that which is nice and easy. Although that comes with a carry bag, maybe a hard case would be better for some people but you could always look at getting a third party one if you really need that.

Moving up from the microphone, we’ll find the micro USB charging port, which we use pretty infrequently, a simple power slider, and LED indicators to show the headset is connected or connecting. On the opposite side of the headset, we’ll find a generously sized volume wheel which I love, being someone with big hands I often find small control wheels in inline controls fiddly, so this is a welcome feature.

HyperX Cloud Flight

As far as the build quality and design of this headphone, I think the build is fantastic, it is completely plastic besides your little adjustment of the headband right there. The headband is plastic but your notches just the little headband extender right there is metal. The rest of the headset is completely plastic but it’s a very heavy-duty plastic, it doesn’t feel cheap and it doesn’t flex by any means. I twisted them up to check whether is there any creaks but there was no cranky and nothing like that.

Again they feel incredibly solid and as far as the little wires sticking out right there, I think that’s just for like aesthetics kind of going along with that another HyperX design how have the wire sticking out of their headsets. Whatever you spin the headset or anything, that wired does not move at all, so again I think that just for looks so you don’t get to worry about it and it’s really firm.

On the right ear cup, you have your volume wheel, and it’s a fairly soft roll but you do have steps in between it, so it’s really nice you can get your precise volume adjustments, and everything. On the left ear cup, you have your power button, right below that you have your 3.5 connection, you have your charge port, and then you have your microphone port.

COMFORT:

Inside of the ear cups, you’ll find a nice soft material, one which will keep your ears cool and sweat-free, and like the pleather variants we see. The leather ear cups around the ear is nice and comfortable for long periods of use. The headband has got a nice range of adjustability with printed notches to match them up perfectly on each side. The other spectacle out there is I didn’t finally have an overly strong clamping force or any pressure on the sides of my ears, which is another complaint that I generally find on gaming headsets. They do have a good clamping force, if you wear glasses you’re gonna be ok with these, not gonna get any discomfort from wearing them for long periods of time, that’s got a good clamping force but not overly strong. They are a little bit bulky but they are lighter they look with the plastic construction.

HyperX Cloud Flight

Straight out the box, putting the headset on your head, they are incredibly comfortable. The clamping force is more or less, a medium clamping force they’re not loose, they’re not moving much on me right here but they’re not tight. I was not getting any pressure points or anything, and the really cool thing about that is we have all this swivel. They go a little bit forward and then all the way back right there, so they’re gonna fit any head shape. I mean plenty of adjustment and very comfortable. We got a swivel all the way out flat, so if you want to lay it on your chest you can do so and you got a little pinch going forward but the ear cups also go in and out right there and form to the shape of your head.

As far as the ear pads and the headband, they are completely leather, so your ears do get a little hot of them after a while but they do lock in the sound very well. The ear cups and the headband are incredibly soft and plush, super comfortable. They’re not too soft where they press anything you start feeling that frame pressure on there anything and they’re not too firm, where it’s kind of make you feel uncomfortable. They’re just right in between right there and again they’re completely comfortable. As far as the size of the ear cups, I think they are a fantastic size, and as far as the fit right over my ears perfect closure in there, and there is plenty of depth within them as well. But if you do have bigger ears and you’re kind of worried about them touching the inside of the jawline, there’s really soft foam inside there. So, if your ears touching inside, it’s not gonna really bother you or scrape your ear or feel like this banging against your ear.

Sennheiser GSP 370

The 370 offers support for PC with the software for Mac and PlayStation 4, a state of battery life of a whopping 100 hours, a noise-canceling microphone, 20 to 20 kilohertz of dynamic range, and a lag-free wireless experience. As far as the unboxing experience with these, it’s just a vacuum-form package that houses the headphones, USB adapter, 1.5-meter charging cable, and an instruction manual.

This plays automatically within a few seconds of a set in the USB adapter and turning the headset on, so very convenient. One of the things, I’ve really enjoyed is the wireless freedom this offers but you will get a quality wireless experience with no latency. This does use micro USB which is a downside, I really would like to see USB-C it’s kind of the new standard but hopefully, in a new generation, we’ll see they’re implemented. Also, powering is lovely, and didn’t have to do anything literally plug the USB receiver, in turn, the headset on a little pair in a few seconds, it cuts out all the manual work. 

If you are using this on PC, and you do have available software then you can EQ this headset with. On the home page of the Sennheiser software when we open the application, on the bottom there we’ve got three different options. The very far left will give you the options for playback and what you’re gonna hear yourself, you’ve got some nice smooth controls for the EQ to get a nice custom preset option on there. You can make a custom profile if you wish and on the left-hand side, we’ve got the playback mode. You’ve got 2.0 which is stereo sound and the right option is 7.1 for your gaming. I would recommend sticking to 2.0 if you’re gonna go before just music playback, definitely doesn’t work when using it in 7.1 modes. When you do enable that 7.1 option, you get an option for reverb which is really nice to see. Then on the right-hand side, we’ve got quick a sound test. In the middle, we’ve got the mic options so for example the gain and then you go and adjust this little wheel on the right-hand side.

From the 7.1 and the gaming aspect, one thing I will say is this is a virtual 7.1 loss of physical 7.1, so there are a few limitations there. One quick side note for anyone that’s planning to use this with the PS4, you won’t be able to get that virtual 7.1 on the PlayStation because this is using the software to enable that Virtual Surround, so if you can’t download it that’s gonna stay with a stereo sound if you use it on PS4. Going through any kind of genre of game where you’ve got the EQ, you do get a good sounding performance, no matter what you play. For example, BattleField sounds great with that low bass boom from explosions, you get a nice low punch from the gun sounds, vehicles, and tanks something all sound fantastic as well. Considering it’s a virtual 7.1, it does do a very good job, it does perform very well and you do get a very authentic experience.

The hundred-hour state of battery life is an extreme amount of battery for any gaming headset certainly, the best claim battery that I’ve ever seen the gaming headset, and realistically you can expect around 85 hours every battery is different, and they’re not all going to hit that. I’d always take a little bit off to make sure you’re not disappointed. But even with 85 hours possibly for me, that’s from charging once a month for two or three hours uses a day which is just incredible.

HyperX Cloud Flight

In the box, you get some cables, wireless adapter, one great thing about the headset is that the mic is detachable, so it doesn’t have to get in the way but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to use a second mic with it. I don’t think it fits properly, if you can find one that does then maybe. They boast a 30-hour battery life with the LEDs of which you can cycle with the power button. The impedance is 32 ohms and you can plug them into your phone with the supplied cable, which is about 1.3 meters long. In the stress test, there’s no cracking but that can develop over time. 

The ear cups are about 7 centimeters by 5 and about 2 centimeters deep, which is fairly standard. I wore them for hours with no discomfort. The clamping force is fine, shouldn’t be a problem with glasses either. Although, it depends on the person they didn’t fall off when looking up or down. The headband is comfortable enough and gets adjusted easily. As far as turning them on, you just put your USB dongle in whichever console you’re on rather be PlayStation or the PC also this works on the Switch as well wirelessly which I tested across every single device even on Xbox, and to turn them on, you just hold down the power button, you get a little tone, and then your LED will turn on on the ear cups.

You can see on the box of this headset, it states up to 30 hours that is actually with the LEDs off again which you control by the simple press of the power button. If you keep the LEDs off, then you can get 30 hours of battery life. You’re gonna get 18 hours of battery life if you press it again into the breathing mode in which it’s just gonna pulse. As far as the software for this, it’s just basically to adjust your volume or mic volume, you can mute it, there’s nothing else you can do in the software.

MICROPHONE:

Sennheiser GSP 370

The GSP 370 has certainly one of the better microphones I’ve had on a headset. Obviously, one of the biggest things that Sennheiser souces are microphones, so we would expect it to be of good quality, and I think it is a lot. By my test, I can guide that there is no need to do any post-processing to the audio track out of this at all but anything that you can do to get better microphone quality out of this just matches the volume to the rest of the audio track but apart from that, it is completely good out of the actual headset microphone itself.

HyperX Cloud Flight

The mic also suffers from a lot of pops, so I had to position it to the side. When I was pressing the keyboard keys in the background, and talking the keyboard noise was getting recorded and when I stopped talking the key processors gets disappear. So, it’s cutting out as soon as there’s not enough sound which is a good feature. But it’s also low in volume, which is not good. Overall quality is fairly clear, decent sound, but nothing amazing. When recording on the mic, I can tell how much better the Cloud Flight is and I wouldn’t EQ them at all, everything seems balanced and sounds great, and really good detail too.

SOUND:

Sennheiser GSP 370

Being from Sennheiser, I did expect them to be pretty good quality and they have reached that expectation that I did set. There is a nice range of bass and obviously, you can EQ that down a little bit if you don’t want it to be too bassy. But it is a nice deep rich bass, and there’s no distortion when did you get into the high-range of volume. The mids and highs are good and a nice clarity with the high end, things seem nice and crystal clear.

Also, you can add some high-end in with the software, which is a really nice touch. Some headsets don’t come with any EQ software which is a big downside and something that kind of disappoints me when I do get into the software, but it’s a nice touch to see that Sennheiser has included EQ software even if it is very basic. Considering it is a gaming headset, you do get a nice level of soundstage there as well, you can pick off individual instruments when you are listening to music tracks.

HyperX Cloud Flight

The sound is actually pretty good, it’s just a bit too low in volume. I did a lot of testing with the vocal timing, and there seems to be a very slight delay on their headset but don’t get it causing a problem in-game though. Those two things are the only real negatives, the rust is positive, the gaming experience is really good. Even though they had set up is to be aimed more toward the professional-grade sound, I had no treble hearing where players were in Quake Live. If you want pure entertainment with excessive bass like on the PlayStation 4, I found the Thresher gave a bit more of a good experience but really the Cloud Flight was awesome.

If I could only choose one headset and given the Thresher is about twice the price at some stores, I definitely choose the HyperX Cloud Flights. The Thresher microphone is better but that’s all you’d actually miss other than the virtual 7.1. The sound quality is much better on the Flights, it sounds like every frequency has its place without getting muddy. It’s tight, really nice, this is the kind of headset I’d be happy to use while making music, and for that reason, I’m going to keep using it on my main system.

WHICH TO BUY?

In my opinion, the Sennheiser GSP 370 is good for you to buy because it offers a great price for performance and this is certainly one of the best gaming headsets. If you’re worried about battery, you want something that’s going to last you all day, or several days, this will definitely get the job done. If you’re a bass-heavy type of person and you need a lot of basses, these are definitely not going to be for you, and in that case, you can go for HyperX Cloud Flight. But if you want something that’s crystal clear, you can hear everything and everything sounds really good and really balanced, this is the perfect headset especially if you play Competitive Shooters as I do.

All in all, the Cloud Flight is a great accessory, but it’s what I’d classify as a one-trick pony.
