This is the review of the comparison between two earbuds from two popular brands in the market. The comparison here is between the Sony WF-1000XM3 and the Jabra Elite 75t. INTRODUCTION:

Sony WF-1000XM3

The Sony WF-1000XM3 is one of the best noise-canceling earbuds available in the market. From the very packaging to the earbuds themselves, everything about these earphones screams premium quality, and at around $178, I would hope so too. With the many flagship features on here, these are certainly looking like the great truly wireless earphones to beat.

Jabra Elite 75t

The Jabra Elite 75t is retailing for around one hundred and fifty dollars. These earbuds have really good comfort with their small size which also gives you a great fit. These earbuds have 4-microphone call technology which allows you to take calls and gives you great microphone quality.

DESIGN:

The earbuds are also held magnetically in the case, so you don’t need to worry about these falling out accidentally but again these can be lifted out fairly easily. When you place the earbuds back in the case, the earbuds LEDs will illuminate to show that they’re charging, this is a clever feature. Since a lot of other charging cases also use magnets but they don’t give any indication that the earbuds have actually been placed back correctly and that they’re in contact with the charging pins. Dropping the earbuds back into the case is pretty simple, the earbuds seem to naturally finds their way into place and to give a satisfying click as the magnets engaged.

There’s also an LED on the outside of the case, that will glow whilst your earbuds are charging and turns off when they’re done. So, you can instantly see when your earbuds are fully charged. With charging the case, the LED turns off when that’s fully charged too, so it’s super handy. As the charging cases go, this one is on the larger size not quite as large as the bulky PowerBeats Pro case but certainly less pocketable than something like Airpods. For a case this size though, I was hoping that this would support wireless charging but sadly it doesn’t, with all things considered though this is one of the better charging cases for true wireless earphones.

Jabra Elite 75t

In comparison to the 65t, the case is a little bit smaller than the 75t but instead of micro USB you got USB Type-C for charging. One of the things I didn’t like about the 65t is that the case is a little bit hard to open but this one opens a lot easier. You can definitely notice the difference in size between the 65t and 75t if you have the 65t, so the 65t is definitely a little bit bigger.

As far as the design of the button controls, one tap for play and pause, and answer and end phone calls with the right earbud, if you want to skip double tap on the left earbud, if you want to reverse triple tap on the left earbud, if you want volume up long press on the right earbud, if you want volume down long press on the left earbud, for your voice assistant double tap on the right earbud, and if you want to activate ambient sound mode single tap on the left earbud, once you do it you hear a voice prompt.

COMFORT:

Sony WF-1000XM3

I personally found that these give a really secure fit in my ear, so the passive noise isolation was pretty good. There are more isolating earbuds on the market but they still did a good job of blocking out the external sound passively, when the ANC was turned off. The tight seal also kept sound leakage to a minimum, so only when you’re listening to its loud volumes much the person sitting next to you be disturbed. As with any true wireless earbuds how well these will fit and stay in your ears is dependant on your ear shape and which ear tips you use.

Jabra Elite 75t

I tested out the fit and comfort with these but put these in my ears and there’s a nice tight comfortable fit. Also, I did the shake test to know whether it comes out and falls off during gym activities or not and with maximum shaking also these did not move at all. Definitely, I can feel the fit, also these are super comfortable, and they’re not moving around at all.

Sony WF-1000XM3

It’s no secret that Sony is killing it lately with active noise-canceling and that WH-1000 XM3 headphones are arguably the best ANC headphones on the market currently. Trying to translate that kind of performance into these tiny earbuds is a difficult feat, and true wireless earphones will never be able to offer the same kind of ANC performance as headphones. Sony is one of the only companies to have even tried this and good ANC and true wireless earbuds are almost unheard of. But after the somewhat lackluster performance of the previous generation, I was initially skeptical about this new model. But having tested this feature out fully Sony may have won me over.

With noise-canceling turned on, there is a subtle but noticeable improvement in how much external noise is blocked out. Definitely, this is nowhere near the level of the headphones cancellation but you can hear that your surroundings become ever so slightly muffled when turning ANC on. Again, it’s only really the lower frequency sounds that get canceled, such as winners noise and traffic, and there aren’t many cancellations for voices and other mid too high frequencies. In a quiet environment, you might notice an ever so slight hiss but this becomes inaudible with music playing.

One interesting thing I noted was that your music sounds noticeably more bassy with ANC turned on. This could be a by-product of the ANC, a certain external frequencies become canceled, some of your music’s frequencies may become boosted. But I wonder if this is intentional on Sony’s part, to give the illusion of more effective noise-canceling when listening to music. Either way, your music does become more isolated and immersive with ANC on, and I can hear the difference without music playing. So, something is definitely working, even if the change is quite subtle. The QN1e processor is a new addition to this model, as the ANC performance does seem to have been improved a lot from the previous generation. The upgraded processor is also more efficient and uses less power for ANC, which is how Sony has been able to drastically improve the battery life. Overall, I really liked the ANC feature, the more I used it, the more I realized how much I was relying on it and it’s a worthwhile addition to the earbuds.

I should also give mention the ambient sound mode which works very effectively too. Being able to hear your surroundings can be really important and Sony’s version of this feature offers decent amplification compared to the competition. I also like that you can personalize the level of sound amplification, so whenever you cycle through to the ambient sound mode, you can hear as much of your environment as you choose. Another feature of it from Sony’s headphone lineup is adaptive sound control. This essentially enables the noise canceling to automatically adjust depending on your environment.

For example, if you’re sat stationary at your desk, then the noise canceling will operate at maximum to help you keep focus but as you get up and start walking, the earbuds will automatically switch over to enable ambient sound to filter in, so that you can safely hear surroundings. The feature is pretty good and could be handy on a long commute if you want to keep your hands-free. But the same problems are unfortunately still present, it doesn’t always accurately detect your change in environment. This can take a really long time to change over and to normally found it easier to just have the earbud to change the ANC manually.

In terms of latency, you can notice a slight delay in the audio when watching youtube on an iPhone but you do have to look very closely, Netflix though the audio was perfectly in sync. Latency was better on Android with no issues on YouTube or Netflix at all, even without AptX support, so watching videos should be absolutely fine. Another disappointment was a lack of multi-device pairing, this is a feature that’s typically missing from even flagship headphones, and it was a drawback not to see it supported. You are able to pair with two devices but not have them connected at the same time. As soon as you try to connect to the second device, the earbuds will disconnect from the first. What was great to see though was the inclusion of NFC, so you can simply tap your Android phone to the case and you’ll instantly pair it with the earbuds.

Jabra Elite 75t

This box comes in a nice presentation, on the inside box it has the Jabra Brandon and when you slide out that box, there will be your earbuds. These earbuds have a different design than the 65t. Inside the box you get your earbuds themselves, the charging case, then you do get your USB Type-C charging cable, some different sized ear tips you got small, medium, and large installed Quick Start Guide, and you got your usual books and that’s pretty much it in the box.

As far as the specs on this one, the box claims that engineered to fit great calls and music, design for compact comfort, secure fit, microphone call technology, and up to 28 hours total charge. The box also claims that it is a proven wireless connection for microphone call technology. The box also claims that you can customize your music, so this does have an app that’s available for Android and iOS, you got a two-year warranty against dust and water, and you got your voice assistant enabled, so that’s Alexa Google, and Siri and this also features Bluetooth 5.0.

These earbuds use a Bluetooth 5.0, so there should be a guaranteed 30 feet range but when I walked all the way to 50 feet, there was no drop connection at all. As far as the lag latency on these and what I mean by that is when you’re watching a video is there any delay from the person’s lips to what you hear, it is pretty good and there was no delay with the YouTube videos and also, with the Netflix there was no lip-sync delay at all.

As far as the reconnection test goes, means how long do these take to reconnect to your phone after you take them out and put them in a charging case and it takes around three seconds to reconnect that’s excellent. You can play music from one earbud while the other one is charging up in the case but if you want to play music from one earbud at a time, it has to be on the right side. In order to activate the hear-through mode known as the ambient sound mode, you just need to press the left earbud once and the ambient sound mode definitely works really well even at a higher volume.

The first thing you need to do after you got these earbuds is pair up the earbuds and do the update. So, to pair them up, you just take them out of the case they’ll automatically power up they’ll be in Bluetooth pairing mode then go to your phone’s Bluetooth menu and select the Jabra Elite 75t. Then the next thing you need to do is download the Jabra Sound Plus app and once you open that up connect to your earbuds it’s gonna start the automatic update. You will see the LED in the back of your case flashing and you just need to kind of wait about 15 minutes for it to complete the update. So, once you finish the update, the app is gonna give you full access to all of the features.

APPLICATION:

In the app, you have the option to toggle on and off auto-pause, this feature will automatically pause your music when you remove an earbud and resumes playing when you place the earbuds back in. It’s a really handy feature so I’m glad to see it included here. The next up is an option to choose whether you prioritize sound quality or a stable connection. I didn’t have any connection issues when prioritizing sound quality in myself but it’s good to at least be given the option here. If you find yourself in an area with high interference, and this could be a helpful feature.

Underneath is another new addition to the XM3s, which is Sony’s digital sound enhancement engine. This feature can upscale your compressed audio files to near high-resolution audio. We’ve seen this feature before with the XM3 headphones, and this has the potential to significantly improve the audio quality but it will consequently drain the battery quicker. Towards the bottom there, we have a toggle for the auto power-off feature, which helps to preserve the earbuds battery life by turning them off after five minutes of inactivity, that’s the final two toggles here lets you turn off voice prompts, if you prefer and also to enable automatic software downloads. There are quite a few features packed into these earbuds and in general, the Sony headphone connects app is one of the most comprehensive and user-friendly companion apps on the market.

Jabra Elite 75t

The app shows you what headphones you got connected to the app, so you will get the Jabra Elite 75t, it will show you the battery percentage on your left and the right earbuds, and also, battery left on the case. You can also check your firmware update there, you got voice assistant, so you can change that to Google or Amazon Alexa or Siri, you got to register your Jabra, and then you got “find my Jabra” in case you lose these open up the app, it’ll show you the last place you have them connected. Then you got your voice guidance in language, then rate your Jabra, and your guidance and manuals. If you go over to the discovery in the app, there you will find need help with your headset, allow your location, register your products, and what do you think about the app.

If you go to about in the app, you could buy some drivers online, contact Java support, technical info, rate the app, privacy policy, and your legal disclaimer. If you go to moments which is the best part of the app, there will be your music equalizer so you can play with this if you want, then you got music presets default one, bass boost, smooth, speech, treble boost, and energize. Then you got soundscape there, and this is gonna give you your ambient sounds. Then you got your commute settings, again you got speech, treble boost, smooth, energized, and you got your focus.

BATTERY AND ITS LIFE:

Sony WF-1000XM3

The Sony WF-1000XM3 provides six hours of playback with the ANC turned on, eight hours of playback with the ANC turned off. The Charging case will provide you around thirty-two hours of playback that is three additional charges and twenty-four hours with the ANC turned on. This also supports fast charging, that is 10 minutes of charging will give you around one and half hours of playback.

Jabra Elite 75t

The Jabra Elite 75t has up to 7.5 hours battery, and 28 hours with the charging case, so that’s three additional charges. This earbud features a quick charge, so 15 minutes of charge will give you one hour’s worth of music.

SOUND:

Sony WF-1000XM3

The preset equalizer settings are actually really interesting, they can drastically alter your music, accurately adapt to the sound as they describe, and you can really hear the difference reflected in the audio. The great thing is you can also fine-tune the sound to your liking with the custom equalizer. These earbuds can get quite loud, and I found that fifty to sixty percent volume was a decently loud but still comfortable listening level. As I mentioned before, turning on ANC does for whatever reason, give a nice kick to the audio. Particularly, with regards to the bass which never becomes overpowering. With the isolation provided by ANC, your music is really immersive, as this is definitely the best listening experience I’ve had with true wireless earphones so far. In terms of pure audio quality, these are the ones to beat.

Jabra Elite 75t

I tested out the sound quality on this with the max volume and the preset set to the bass boost on a bunch of music from different genres. These are nice and loud and it does a pretty good job in terms of sound quality. I was almost blown away by the sound quality of these earbuds. The bass line on these is incredible and if you have the question that is this worth 180 dollars and the answer is yes. The 75t definitely sound better and not just a little bit better, a lot better than the 65t. These are definitely worth the extra forty dollars as these sound a lot better than the 65t. 

WHICH ONE IS FOR YOU?

The XM3 has good battery life, good comfort, good noise-canceling technology, and sound quality, which are all really fantastic but the lack of any water resistance means that you can’t use these as an all-around device. If you want your earbuds to also be suitable to take to the gym, you need to go for the Jabra Elite 75t which is both dust and waterproof. If you just want a pair of truly wireless earphones for listening to music, with great noise-canceling technology, and also with good battery life, then the Sony WF-1000XM3 is good for you.
