Tribit StormBox Micro

The StormBox Micro is a portable Bluetooth speaker from Tribit. If you’re not familiar with this brand, Tribit is a brand that actually comes out with some pretty good speakers in the market currently like the Tribit XSound Go, and the speakers coming out from Tribit are actually pretty good, they are known for their good sound quality with budget price. This speaker is retailing for around fifty dollars currently on Amazon.

JBL Go 2

The JBL Go 2 is one of the cheapest portable Bluetooth speakers from JBL. This speaker is retailing for around forty dollars currently on Amazon. This is the updated version speaker of the JBL Go. This speaker does have some changes from its predecessor. This does sound pretty good for the price and it is really portable because of its small size.

DESIGN:

Tribit StormBox Micro

It is a very tiny speaker, and it actually fits perfectly well in the hand, so I really like the form factor of this little speaker, and the materials used in this speaker are also very nice. This is a soft touch material at the back, which is very smooth to the touch. There is a little strap at the back there which you can actually open it up and like strap it on to your bike or backpack or something like that, so you can hook it on to stuff or any bars or railings or whatnot.

On the speaker itself it comes with a couple of buttons there you have the volume up and down as well as the play-pause button, so very simple to use. On one of its side, there will be your power button, your Bluetooth button and in the center there a couple of LED’s that shows your battery status. On the other side is where there will be your USB Type-C port, which you can use to charge the Tribit StormBox Micro. The speaker itself is very light in weight and also, it is small in size, so it becomes very easy to carry this around with you.

JBL Go 2

The design is a departure from the typical JBL line of waterproof speakers, featuring a durable mesh cloth instead, you’ll find the Go 2 has a rubberized housing that makes it easy to grip and feels extremely solid in your hand. What’s really refreshing is the color options. There are actually 12 different choices, so you won’t have to be limited with the typical generic black speaker box.

On the front of the speaker, there is the JBL logo and grille for the sound to project out but it does lack the passive bass radiators found on the higher end JBL portable speakers. However, it’s not something we expected at this price point. All the controls are found on top with buttons for power-up, pairing, volume, and a multi-function button that can be used as playback controls. It can also be used to activate your phone’s voice assistant by long pressing on it. On the right side, under the waterproof flap, you’ll find the micro USB port and a 3.5-millimeter aux jack, which is a nice bonus, since many budget portable speakers forego the 3.5-millimeter aux jack.

The features of this Tribit StormBox Micro is actually listed up on the box itself, so Tribit claims that this is actually IP67 waterproof that means you can submerge this speaker into the water for about thirty minutes apart from that it comes with long battery life, true wireless stereo, and superior sound.

Another thing that Tribit features with the StormBox Micro is that if you have two units of this little speaker, you can actually pair both speakers together, so you can create a stereo sound, so what they mean by a true Wireless stereo is if you have two units of this tiny speaker, you can put both of them together and then you will have the stereo sound, which sounds really great. I have tested it out and it sounds really good. Also, you have the option to get party mode by syncing this up with another speaker of the same model where both the speakers would sound together and give you great loudness.

In terms of battery life according to Tribit, we should expect about eight hours of battery life on this tiny little speaker. I personally was able to get about five to six hours because I usually listen to some music when I go to bed and when I wake up in the morning it sometimes has already turned off automatically. So, I guess it really depends on the volume, where you have your speakers, and if you have the speaker playing a very loud volume the battery life will definitely be affected there. Another thing to note is that the speaker itself is 290 grams, which is actually fairly light, so it becomes very easy to carry this around.

JBL Go 2

When it comes to speakers generally, the bigger it is the better it sounds, and we stress generally. So, when JBL puts out an ultra-compact Bluetooth speaker that’s not only durable but also waterproof, and it is about four and a fourth inch by three and three-quarter inch, and less than one and a half inches thick.

I found the mic wasn’t that powerful. We had to speak up to be heard but in doing so managed to be heard fairly clearly and accurately. I found the build to be extremely durable and the IPX7 is a definite standout in this class. The small ultra-compact size is perfect to stuff in your pocket for convenient portability. The audio performance is quite impressive with louder and clearer sound than expected with all things considered. So, if you’re looking for an affordable compact Bluetooth speaker for on-the-go music then the Go 2 could be your Go-to portable speaker.

What’s impressive is the IPX7 waterproof rating, this makes it perfect to take to the beach or poolside or you can even take it in the pool for worry-free listening. There aren’t that many entry-level speakers that can boldly make such a claim. The Go 2 seems to fall short of its battery. The performance isn’t necessarily bad with up to 5 hours of playback time but the sore point is that it takes about 2 and a half hours to charge it just to get those 5 hours.

SOUND QUALITY:

Tribit StormBox Micro

One thing that I really like about this speaker is that the sound quality is really good. In my room, I have only a small space and the speaker of this size sounds really good because you can hear it loud and clear throughout the entire room. So, obviously, if you bring this speaker to an open space, the sound quality is not going to be as loud as what you would get in a closed space as you would get in a room. But in a closed space or maybe in small rooms or maybe just your living room, the speaker is actually very good. So, the sound quality is great on this speaker we have very nice highs and mids.

The bass is not the strongest out there. Obviously, this is a very small size speaker, so you can’t expect the bass to be dead powerful but regardless the sound is definitely better than what you get obviously on your smartphone as well as on other Bluetooth speakers of this price. The volume gets very loud and at very high volumes the sound doesn’t break, it is still very clear, and overall, the sound quality of this tiny little speaker is really good for the price.

JBL Go 2

When it came to audio performance, we weren’t really expecting much but since it is a JBL speaker, it would probably sound marginally better than the slew of sub 50 compact Bluetooth speakers on the market. I played a few of my playlists from different genres and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. This little speaker cranked out the tunes above and beyond its size class. I found it delivered an impressively loud and pretty clear sound. As the volume went up, the bass response did get a little lost but the mids and highs managed to keep up fairly well. The vocals had some great detail and the clarity was better than expected.

WHICH TO BUY?

In my opinion, you should buy the Tribit StormBox Micro because even though the p[rice on this is 10 dollars more it worth that extra money as this supports USB-C for charging, it has 8 hours of battery life, and also sound good which is better than the JBL Go 2 all the way. So, if you are looking for a tiny speaker with a budget of about fifty US dollars, I think the Tribit StormBox Micro is actually something that you should consider because this is a very nice, nicely built device, comes in a small form-factor, stands pretty well, comes with good audio quality, and there’s nothing much that we can complain about this little speaker. If you can’t pay that extra 10 dollars then you can absolutely go for the JBL Go 2 that’s also good for its price.
