Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3

The Megaboom 3 from the Ultimate Ears is retailing for around two hundred dollars. These speakers are coming in four different colors you got ultraviolet purple, sunset red, lagoon blue, and midnight black. These speakers are retailing for around two hundred dollars which is fifty dollars more than the Boom 3.

The price for the UE Boom 3 is Hundred and fifty dollars. The UE Boom 3’s predecessors the original Ultimate Ears Boom and the Boom 2 were some of the most popular Bluetooth speakers around the release. But Ultimate Ears has made some pretty big changes with the Ultimate Ears Boom 3.

DESIGN: 

Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3

This speaker is nice and lightweight on this, you got that rugged cloth material that goes all the way around, this is water-resistant, and it does float. On the front you got plus and minus that’s your volume up and down, on the top, you got a power button, your Bluetooth button, and there’s the new magic button. That magic button is the biggest upgrade from the 2 to the 3, now you don’t need your phone.

Press the magic button you can play-pause, skip and reverse tracks, and if you use Apple Music, or Deezer, press one button and you can play your playlist. On the bottom, you got those threads and that’s for if you got one of these wireless charging pads. On one side, you got the strap, on the bottom you got a little flap, once you open that up there’s your micro USB charging slot and that’s pretty much it.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

As far as the size comparison, the size of the Megaboom 3 is bigger than the Boom 3 and you got a fifty dollars difference. Compared to Megaboom 3, these have got five hours less worth of battery. On the front, you got the same plus and minus that same rugged cloth material, you get the strap, hit your micro USB charging slot, same wireless charge capability on the bottom. 

There’s a total of five buttons on the speaker itself, volume buttons on the side, and on the top, we find three buttons the power button, the pairing button, and also one toggle for play-pause, skip track, and the last track. On the bottom, there’s a charging pin which unfortunately does require you to buy an extra charging dock to use it, but you can also charge the speaker through a regular micro USB. You need to buy the wireless charging dock if you want to charge these wirelessly but again you’re paying for the aesthetics and the convenience of having something like this, sitting on your desk so just charge at any time.

The box of the Megaboom 3 claims that powerful sound with thundering bass, this one is also waterproof and it does float, you got 360 degrees sound, you get twenty hours worth of battery life, you got the magic button, and it is dustproof and shockproof. In the box, you get your Megaboom speaker itself, your usual books, charging brick, and your micro USB charging cable. On the bottom of the Boom 3 box, it says contains Ultimate Ears Boom 3 micro USB cable while the bottom of the Megaboom 3 box contains Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3 micro USB cable and a quick charging adapter.

The first thing you need to do is to download the Ultimate Ears app, once you open this up pair it with the speaker, that’s gonna give you full control. So, on the top you got your battery percentage, when you go over to settings you got the speaker name, the serial number, you got speaker sounds, you could turn the voice prompts on and off, you got speaker language, OneTouch party list and this works with the magic button if you got Apple music or Deezer you can use that, to press the button and switch through your playlists. Then you got to party up so this way you can add up to 150 speakers and you got your speaker updates.

From the main page of the app, you got your power button, you got an EQ so you got custom you can add more bass, mids, and highs, you got standard, cramped spaces, voices, and bass jump. It also shows you what song is currently playing. You can use the magic button to skip the song by holding on to it for a few seconds in the playlist. So that’s a nice little feature, that’s the upgrade from the 2 to the 3. Now you don’t always have to have your phone in hand and you also got tabs on the bottom there’s your party up, and add some more speakers, and that’s block party so if you want to let somebody else appear to your phone DJ, hit that tab and let him connect.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

The UE Boom 3 has bold sound, deep bass, it is water-resistant and it does float. as the box claims, you could connect up to 150 speakers together, you got 360 degrees sound, 15-hour battery life, and the new feature on this, it’s called the magic button that’s on the top. These also drop-proof and dustproof and comes with a two-year warranty. You get nice packing, a nice presentation, and in the box, you get the Boom 3 speaker itself, your books and direction guide, and your charging cable that is micro USB.

This thing retails for a hundred and fifty dollars and as far as the price range goes that will put it in the mid-range category of speakers, it’s not necessarily super expensive but it’s not budget either. There are a few key things that actually separate this from the Boom 2 and other speakers in that price range, but the most notable change is the removal of the auxiliary port. What this means is that, if you don’t have Bluetooth on your device you won’t be pushing any music to it. To make up for this, UE has also increased the range of Bluetooth on this device, and connectivity and reliability on Bluetooth have been really solid in my experience.

These are also finally allowing two devices to connect to the speaker at once, so you can trade off using the control of the music. If you’re using the speaker between two devices or sharing a connection with a friend, that’s a really handy feature that the vast majority of Bluetooth speakers out there just don’t have. The other improvements include making it float in water and it’s IP67 certified which means you won’t have any issues dunking this in water, and even submerging it.

The speaker itself is actually made of really sturdy materials. On the box, that claims to be able to take a drop from up to five feet, this obviously would scratch the crap out of this but in terms of durability, if you do drop it, it’s not gonna break. Battery life is rated for 15 hours on the UE Boom 3, this is one of those things that are kind of hard to measure just because it’s gonna depend on what volume you’re playing your music at. But for most of my uses, I was able to get 13 to 14 hours which is really good.

SOUND QUALITY:

Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3

The sound quality is crystal-clear, they get nice and loud, but they’re not the most bass-heavy speakers in the world, then that could be a good thing or bad thing depending on your type of music. But you do have an app, so you can customize your sound to get it sound as you want it to be.

Ultimate Ears Boom 3

As far as the sound quality on the Boom 3, these make perfect computer speakers because when you pair them up using the app, you can have stereo sound or you can have left to the right channel. It’s also louder, the bass is improved, and so is the treble and overall the sound quality has been improved. In the app, you can also max off the bass, or change it to your liking. You can also pair this speaker with another product from UE for a stereo vibe.

WHICH TO BUY?

If you want to choose between the Boom 3 or the Megaboom 3, I would suggest spending the extra 50 dollars and get the Megaboom 3 will be the correct decision. The sound quality is pretty much identical but on the Megaboom 3, it’s a little bit louder and you got more bass that’s where the Megaboom 3 becomes better than the Boom 3.
