Detail Review:
INTRODUCTION:
Ultimate Ears Megaboom
The original Boom 360 was very nice and after its launch, Logitech has come out with an even more powerful version called the Megaboom and this thing sounds absolutely amazing. The Ultimate Ears Megaboom speakers are retailing for around a hundred and forty dollars.
Ultimate Ears Megablast
The Ultimate Ears Megablast is a Bluetooth speaker launched after the launch of Ultimate Ears Blast speakers. The Blast speakers themselves were very loud and sounded great now this is Megablast as the name says these gonna sound great than the Blast speakers. The Ultimate Ears Megablast Bluetooth speakers are retailing for around a hundred and eighty-three dollars.
DESIGN:
Ultimate Ears Megaboom
From looking at the design it really hasn’t changed much from his predecessor aside from the fact that it is larger. There are the plus and minus volume switches on one face of the speaker, they are very large and always easy to access. Wrapping around the side of the speaker, it is a mesh material which not only looks great but it seems to be very easy to clean stuff off as well. The speaker is available in four different colors including charcoal black which is personally my favorite as well as lava red, electric blue, and plum.
There’s also a strip running along the side of the speaker which is made out of rubber, which makes it very easy to grip. On one side of the speaker, you will find a power button as well as the Bluetooth pairing button, all you got to do is hold on the power button for a few seconds and a sound will play meaning that it is on. On the other side, you do have your micro USB port for charging as well as your 3.5-millimeter audio jack and also a nice little loop to make it very easy to carry around.
Ultimate Ears Megablast
The speaker itself is quite heavy at 1.2 kilos, so don’t expect to carry it with you everywhere. However, taking it to the beach or the swimming pool could be an option since it’s waterproof an IP67 certificate, which means that it will be protected from both the sand and the water. It can be immersed in a meter of water for up to half an hour.
I tested it underwater and had no issues with it, just make sure you cover the USB port of the provided seal and you’ll be fine. There’s a button at the top, so we can just use it if you want to change the song. It’s not ideal but most of the time I use my phone to pick the songs or videos anyway so I don’t think it will be a big problem for me.
FEATURES:
Ultimate Ears Megaboom
It still maintains its 360 degrees cylinder design, which I’m actually a pretty big fan of and the fact is it is very versatile. You can either have the speaker facing sideways, facing up, put it in your cup holder, or take it wherever you would like. The great thing is you don’t have to worry about it breaking, as it is IPX7 rated meaning it is water and shock-resistant. In terms of connectivity, you do have a 3.5-millimeter jack but I’m sure most people will be using it via wireless Bluetooth or NFC.
After two and half hours of full charge, you can get up to 20 hours of music listening which is something that I’ve never seen on any other Bluetooth speaker before the launch of this. The battery life was absolutely impressive and it definitely lives up to its 20-hour rating. The Bluetooth range is also said to be at one hundred feet and I was definitely able to get near that as well. Additionally, you can also connect two of these speakers to play at the same time, connect up to eight Bluetooth devices, and have two playings simultaneously. There is also an app on iOS and Android that allows you to adjust the EQ and some settings on the UE Boom and Megaboom.
Ultimate Ears Megablast
The box itself gives us some key information that it’s waterproof and that it supports the most popular voice assistant. It should also last for up to 16 hours on a charge. The unboxing experience was actually great. In the box, we have got our speaker themselves, we got there’s a QuickStart guide of some basic information about the device setup, and the voice assistant, power brick with two exchangeable endings for Europe and UK, and the USB cable. Two things to note, unfortunately, it’s a micro USB but the speaker was officially released in 2017 so it’s understandable. Also, make sure you don’t lose the cable, this is a very narrow and long one.
Setting it up is quite easy, first download the Blast app by Logitech, where the parent company of Ultimate Ears. Then open the app and follow the instructions, enter the pairing mode by holding the small button on the top of the speaker for five seconds, go to Bluetooth settings and pair through the Megablast speaker, and then connected to the Wi-Fi just make sure you have the password handy.
The app will then check for any firmware updates which takes a few minutes. Finally, sign in to your Amazon account to enable the assistant and you’re ready to rock. When it comes to the voice assistant I’ve unfortunately had quite bad results as the speaker couldn’t hear my voice activation command for some reason, I had to be as close as 20 centimeters speaking straight to the back of the speaker or the microphones are just to wake it up. Speaking from the front or from further apart, didn’t work at all.
SOUND QUALITY:
Ultimate Ears Megaboom
The sound quality on the UE Megaboom was really impressive and it’s definitely one of my favorite speakers, if not the favorite that I have ever tried out. It is not only very powerful but it delivers a very clear sound with its dual two-inch drivers, and it also has a pretty good bass as well. The bass and vocals can also be adjusted through the application. Another great thing is that the app also allows OTA updates to be pushed through to the speaker.
Ultimate Ears Megablast
As far as the sound quality, it’s really loud probably louder than you’ll ever need it. You can even pair it with up to eight other Blasts or Megablast speakers if that’s not enough for you. The sound is clear and with great bass, and you can adjust the sound further by using one of the presets standard, grunt spaces for a closet or the shower, base jump, custom when you want to tweak it further yourself, and voices for a vocal boost. It’s really great that they added the EQ and it sounds great.
WHICH ONE IS BETTER FOR THE PRICE?
In my opinion, the Ultimate Ears Megaboom is better for the price than the Ultimate Ears Megablast because the Megaboom sounds better than the Megablast for its price, the voice assistant in the Megablast doesn’t work for me well, and the battery life and its performance is better in Megaboom than the Megablast.
