Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2
Wonderboom 2 is one of the best sounding Bluetooth speakers from the Ultimate Ears. These are available in five different colors deep-space black, crushed ice gray, radical red, Bermuda blue, and just peach. As far as the price range on these, the crushed ice gray-colored is retailing for the least price of around fifty dollars among all the remaining colors. So these are retailing for different prices based on their colors.
JBL Flip 4
The JBL Flip 4 is the latest generation Bluetooth speaker from the Flip series. There are definitely changes in their design and performance also with the update in their predecessors. These sound really great as their predecessors and its Bluetooth performance is really improved. This speaker is retailing for around eighty dollars currently.
DESIGN:
Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2
Compared to the Wonderboom, Wonderboom 2 is a little bigger in size. Other than that, there is no difference in their looks. On the front of the speaker, you have your plus and minus buttons to boost your volume up and down.
On top of the speaker, you have your Bluetooth pairing button, your power button, and your multifunctional button to play-pause and to skip tracks. As far as button functions, there is no change in this other than one additional feature that is the outdoor mode button at the button of the speaker.
JBL Flip 4
The JBL Flip 4’s first appearance was in 2017 and it’s available in the market still. The fourth generation is a little bit bigger than the Flip 3, the base radiators are a little bit different from the previous generation, and now have a smooth plastic carbon fiber look to it.
The new body design does not allow the speaker to roll as easily as Flip 3 which is definitely an improvement. The speaker has a 14-millimeter driver ranging from 70 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz. Compared with a low-end 85 Hertz from the previous generation, this actually produced a deeper and punchier bass.

Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2
Some of the features that the company claim these to be are it has 360 degrees spatial sound so wherever you place these and at whatever angle you place these, these are gonna sound the same equally. Then you have the outdoor and indoor mode feature in this, which gonna help you in boosting out the volume level on being outdoor and maintaining at a normal level on being indoor on pressing the tree symbol button at the bottom.
This speaker is IP67 dust-proof and water-proof, it also floats in the water, also these are drop-proof from 1.5 meters. As far as battery life on this, the company claims 13 hours worth of battery life and it takes about two and a half hours to fully charge. You can also pair two of these speakers together to get stereo sound or left and right channel and also you can connect two of these together to get more loud music during parties.
JBL Flip 4
Flip 4 uses the JBL Connects Plus which is different from the JBL Connect. It promised to connect hundred-plus devices but unfortunately, this doesn’t work with Xtreme, Charge 3, and all the previous generations. I hope JBL relieves a firm update for all the older speakers so that JBL Connect Plus will work for all generations. The JBL Flip 4 is the first full waterproof speaker from the previous Flip models.
Unfortunately, the speaker does not float on top of the water, so don’t drop the speaker into a lake or ocean somewhere you cannot dive and pick it up. With the same 3000 milliAmp batteries, the JBL promises 12 hours of playtime, on mid-volume I was able to get around 10 to 11 hours. I think for the size, the battery life is outstanding. The Bluetooth connection latency is not noticeable at all, watching movies YouTube, and videos won’t be a problem for this speaker.
SOUND QUALITY:
Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2
As far as the sound quality on this, the mid-range is clean from my assessment with very much identifiable vocals. The overall instrument resolution in detail is not as full here but as I’m trying to illustrate the audio characteristics are designed more sort to cut through the air for outdoor use versus in-home private audio listening.
The high frequencies do sound a little bit jumbled especially at high volumes, this is quite typical for many small speakers on the markets, where they have a little trouble in differentiating the instruments in the hisses, in the vocals, etc on the very high end. Just like the other Boom speakers they have on the market, these things are built like tanks. I do prefer the audio characteristics of the other competitors but keep in mind they offer direct audio and this full 360 degree sound.
JBL Flip 4
The speaker suffers a little bit at higher volume what that means is a higher volume the treble is actually pretty harsh, as a little bit of an ear-piercing sound to it. Putting on a pair of socks or some sort of cloth can definitely help the treble distortion at a higher volume. The bass is more present than the previous generation, for something too small I’m actually really happy with the amount of bass this thing pumps.
WHICH ONE IS WORTH BUYING?
In my opinion, the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 is worth buying for its lower price than the JBL Flip 4 because both of these sounds almost the same, the battery performance is better on the Wonderboom 2, Bluetooth performance is better on the Wonderboom 2, and the Wonderboom 2 does float but the Flip 4 don’t.
